who is yourcurrent parts supplier....sound like you will need a consistent supply with drag racing and dumping the clutch on a 79

Andy Roger is the man! I don't think the car will have any issue's but we will see. The car won't see track duty on a regular basis. I eventually want to get into the DE events. I just want to get a idea of what she will run and go again after the euro cams are installed to get a real world comparison for future OB'rs so they can get an idea of what the gains will be.

The next phase, next spring will be a set of my heads 4.5L done up w/ larger valves, P&P and valve job w/ new valve train. Then I will do the same testing, dyno then track to see what's what.

After that I will probably build a forged 4.5L bottom end and boost the crap out of it w/ an aftermarket engine mgt system. Thats why I will hold onto my 79 cam's.

All in good time. I ain't rich so it will take time!

imoOOO Thanks for the heads up! Your car sounds sweet! I really like the fact that you built it and it didn't break the bank!

If you are doing "test and tune" drag strip runs for after upgrades comparison you need to do launches that you can consistently duplicate after you get the work done. Trying to get the fastest launch is fun and makes for better times, but is difficult to replicate every time.

On a really hot day my 84 ran a 14.6 in Bristol, TN. I spun all the way through first. (track prep was non-existent) I launched at 3000rpm and let the clutch out quickly but didn't dump it. On a good track on a 70 degree day I would expect a 14.0 out of my car.

John

Thats how I plan to do it! Thanks

RDK in OKC I plan on doing a bunch of passes, if I can of course. I will launch it the same way every time after hearing suggestions. Unless I fall asleep at the light I should have a good comparison to look at. That is all I am after.

After the cams are installed and I go back to the track and if I see a consistent improvement in time or trap then I will know that they helped. No science here, just plan fun and some data to look at and see what's what!

Don't let any air out of your tires, it won't help you. At least not noticeably with street tires.

Getting a consistent ET can be tough. However trap speed is always consistent so you should see any hp changes easily.

RAINRAINRAIN

Well it looks like today is going to be an inside day. Nothing but rain!

Test and Tune thursday 6 to 11! Hope it doesn't rain as it's going to the mechanics that weekend for new cam's, gaskets, and TB!

I agree with this. The ET depends on traction, weight, and power. Trap speed (very approximately) depends on weight and power. (Please note that these are just approximations, I am sure that when you get into modeling it, the trap speed depends somewhat on traction as well.)

I don't know if this is something that people do, but from both the ET, the trap speed, and weight, one should be able to create a reasonably comparable measure of traction.

Why don't you wire in a switch for the kick down and that way it will shift at red line from a stop!

Tampa I have a 5spd. I promise I will shift at redline!

Why don't you come out and play Thursday night?
