Default Short shifter Issue

so i got my roger shifter and installed it. i dont get reverse or first unless i add a few washers, and even then reverse i have to push HARD to get in.. i have installed the new bronze bushings a few weeks ago with no issues.... thoughts?

Sorry to hear that! No help here as my mechanic installed it but I figured I would let you know that mine works beautifully. Awesome mod. Once you get it sorted out you will love it.

brace is in per instructions and the rear coupler is in great shape, new bushings (from roger). maybe if i moved the whole thing to the left more??

oh, my bad. i have seen pics with the brace pointing the other direction. maybe they had it installed wrong

The brace is installed correctly.

I responded to your other post in Herman's thread.

However you can remove those washers as they should not be required.

The problem is that when you removed the rear coupler (or someone in the past has), the pinch sleeve for the shift rod to the universal was not tightened in the correct orientation.

To fix this, put the car in 4th gear, slide under the back and loosen the pinch sleeve.
Have a helper push the shift lever to the far right and up slightly as if it was in 4th gear.
While they are holding it nice and tight, tighten the pinch bolt in the back (2 13mm wrenches).

Once that is done you will be able to access all gears.

do i take the splines all the way off and re slip it on?

No, there is no need/requirement to slide the splines off/on.
Once the pinch bolt is loosened it will rotate on the splines as they are small and the inner bore of the front shift rod is smooth.

ahhh, i did not know that. i thought there were splines on both pieces... well off to the garage i go!

i had the wife hold the shifter and i adjusted it. worked great! but i forgot to take out the washers... but it still works fine. next time i get it in the air, ill re adjust the little smidgen......
