Default Undertray/front spoiler question (S4)

Hi folks,

My car came to me missing its undertray and with the back edge of the front spoiler unsupported. I was going to install a new undertray last night, but found that all but one of the W-shaped support brackets (928 505 289 02) that hold the back edge of the spoiler and the front edge of the undertray were missing.

My question is, why, when the undertray has five holes and the lower edge of the radiator support has five tabs, does the stock setup only use support brackets on three of these? (The two outer tabs are bent up, flat, and not used.)

Thanks,
Paul

For the outer two holes the front spoiler and under tray simply screw together. Why? Probably the three supports in the middle are enough to keep the edge where the front spoiler meets the under tray from sagging.

Seems to me that the question is "why don't you bend the tabs down like they probably were in the first place and then use them with enough double-u brackets to fit all five?"

Because the IPB says there were originally only three support brackets. The other two tabs were originally bent up, from the factory.

Mark at 928 International sells an aftermarket bracket for way less than the Porsche original.
$8.50 ea. IIRC.

Then I guess you have answered your own question. Because the IPB says so and that was the way they were from the factory!!!!
