G'day all, After replacing my 4 speed auto box I find that my brake lights stay on and the brake light warning on the dash stays lit. I've searched rennlist archives but can't find anything apart from brake lights not working. Would it most likely be faulty switches on the booster?? Also found out that the red door lights stay on. I dissconnected the rear hatch light switch and they then go out when the door button is pressed. Does this indicate that I need a new rear hatch switch? My shark is a 84S. Thanks in advance ![Confused](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif)

Try removing and cleaning the rear hatch switch. They get gunked-up.
Similar thing with door switches. Door threads get corroded, switch itself gets dirty and corroded in several key places. Dwayne has a write up. I've never had to replace one, only disassemble and clean. But every single one has needed attention.

I had a similar problem with my car, it turned out to have originated in a short in the hatch overhead light. Which caused the the harness to from the CE panel to the rear to melt in places. The stray voltage caused my taillights to stay on. I ended up replacing the entire harness to the rear of the car. This is the harness that for the rear interior lights, rear defroster, and taillights. Real pain to trouble shoot.
I started by pulling the panel on the hatch where the sun visors are and found the melted wires., so I knew that there was problem. Then I went to the CE panel and started working back, the harness was pretty bad in places. You can replace with new like I chose to, or perhaps make the repairs. Not a hard job, but plan on spending a day on it, if this turns out to be your problem.

Guess what - then the wiring becomes the "fuse" and it just melts "somewhere..." possibly taking other wiring with it - possibly torching the car....

BTW everyone.. the only way this can happen is when some moron replaces the 7.5A fuse with a 30A (or similar) fuse - because the 7.5A fuse keeps blowing...

Thanks guys, Rear brake light problem turned out to be a blown passenger side bulb found with a carefully placed mirror!! I relpaced all rear bulbs. Will get to the hatch switch later. The rear hatch insert is starting to fall apart after 26 years so I think I'll just replace the entire receiver and deal with the switch then.
