I have owned my '99 for 7 years as my every day driver. About to hit 90k. I still love it. With the front and rear trunks, it is the most useful sports car there is. I have grocery shopped for a family of four with my wife and had no problem getting it all home. But if I was looking for one now, I would prefer an "S".

I want to thank everyone for taking the time to respond to my post. From the responses I've gotten and the additional research I've done, I have decided to pass on this spacific car for the time being. We will continue searching for the right car and if it is a Boxster it will most likely a 2000+. We are not in a hurry, so we'll just bide our time till the right one show up at the right price. and when/if I find another candidate we'll do this all over again.
Thanks again,
Simon

The Cayman is the one I think is the sexy one, with a styling that rivals the 928. That's the one I want.

I'm fond of the Cayman and the M Coupe, and if it where for me that's the way I'd go. However this one will be for the the wife, so it's wants, and she wants a convertible. We're considering the Z3 and M Roadster variant of it in addition to the Boxster and at the moment think that is probably where we'll focus.

We've considered an SLK. It was one of her first choices, and we've checked out a few, but the early years (which is what we could afford) have serious interior durability issues. the entire consoleis painted and the paint didn't adhere well and flakes off, the dash cracks out of the corners of the glove box, the door panels are held together with glues that didn't bond.... and we're talking on cars in the 50K mile range. If it weren't for that, it would beat the top of the list.

I think the "face lift" cars post 2000 got better, and the issues may also be limited to the SLK. I don't know that the Cs had the same issues.
