Ok some progress:
Just swapped the EZK and LH from the GTS to my car (an S4), the EZK works fine, but the LH doesn't work at all, the engine cranks over but won't fire-up. So can an LH for a GTS run an S4? I don't see why not and if so then the LH is toast. Tried unplugging and replugging the LH a few times but no different. Odd though that the GTS would fire-up with that LH yesterday, then die when opening throttle, maybe its just given up. The intake is off and the wiring under it is in bad condition, the TPS switch works ok (just the wiring then) and knock sensors are probably original. The MAF looks in a sorry state too so I've suggested they send LH and MAF to JDS Porsche for test and repair.
Joe.

Try the GTS's MAF in your car with your own brains. Jim Bailey's post above is a good point, and MAF's do age with time, not just miles. If the MAF's bad, your car may start, but it'll be running very very rich, with noticeable clouds of black smoke at any rpm's.

The GTS LH has different fuel maps to yours, so it may be overfuelling and not starting - careful or you may foul your plugs.

We did pull the MAF and all seems in order, the car is very low mileage so...it should be ok (unless its already been swapped, but there's no history for this car) It's possible the LH may also be on the way out. The mechanics wanted to try my MAF, LH and EZK from my S4....but my car runs really well and it don't want to risk messing with it! Maybe I'll do some wrenching with them today. With the intake off the knocks etc can be replaced anyway, the connectors have crumbled so I doubt that any of that works.

Yes I'm in Brunei, an expat. I bought a junk '87 S4 from Thomas and have slowly got it back to health (as budget allows!) It's marine blue with black leather interior, mostly remade now but not a bad job. These cars are certainly worth the effort and this forum is an amazing source of information, couldn't have got my car on the road without these guys. The car in this thread is in RNF in Bunut, probably your best bet for maintenance if you don't do it yourself.

So i'll let you know how this turns out. many thanks.
Joe,
i agree- Without this forum & online vendor(928sRus)- I'll be looking at the dealer for parts & $$$$. Would love to see your car picture. Good to know you. & luckily there RNF workshop that do 928.
You can see the workshop here: own by Chinese businessman.

Thomas workshop is a another alternative but too many scrap cars around .

A yellow 928 S4 & red GTS sits in the bush/ jungle at Thomas- Sad too see.
