Washer Neck Old / New (pics)
No question here...I thought I would share a photo of the old vs. new washer neck I just swapped out. I was surprised to see just how cruddy the old one had become. In addition, the reservoir tank was full of debris, and the most rank smelling fluid I have smelled in a long time. I presume the car has been sitting for a while.
To refurbish the system, I drained the tank, and then removed it completely so I can bleach it and clean thoroughly. A job I never planned to do, but worthwhile non the less.
Since I am flying blind here on this one, any suggestions for the process would be welcome.
Thanks,
Dave

Remove the metal part before it can rust?
Test the bleach on the old part first? It's a pretty strong chemical.
Use rice or BB's shaken in the tank to break up and abrade away the crud?

Steel insert on washer filler neck
I just ground out the RUSTED insert with a dremel tool and cleaned it up...
You should remove the metal insert from the new one to avoid making the same mistake...
Why in the world they would put a steel insert inside a fairly rigid poly plastic
nipple tube that has only to support a rubber hose and mildly tightened hose clamp, under NO Pressure...that simply acts as a pathway to passively fill the lower reservoir with bug juice...!!
This has GOT to be why all the washer pumps crap out ..from the rust at the insert...why that was ever neccessary and why it was not stainless steel...I will never know.
I would remove the insert from the new one...most washer fluid is alcohol based...NO Sean, not that kinda alcohol...!!!
Good luck with it...I would be interested in how hard it is to get a new insert out...sure was a **** to get all that rust out 20 years later.... Cheers
