Default Rub strip adhesive

My '91 auto is my daily driver and I'm happy to have the rubstrips. An 8-10 inch section on the door has come loose and I'd like to reattach it without taking off the whole strip. Anyone BTDT wih suggestions and/or recommendations?

Just get some 3M trim tape at the Auto Parts store. It's the same material manufacturers use to attach trim pieces nowadays.

It's hard to properly reattach the rub strip without removing it completely. The reason is that you need to remove the old tape, clean things up, and then put it back with fresh tape.

My suggestion is to get the plastic receptors from your favorite 928 parts vendor, then remove the nut or bolt under the door seal at the end of the door, warm up the molding with a hair dryer, and remove it carefully, without bending it much.

Once off, use the hair dryer to keep things warm, and slowly peel off the old tape. Clean everything nicely, apply fresh 3M Trim Tape, replace the plastic receptors, and put everything back together.

Best of luck!

Be really carefull pulling it off. Its easy to bend it out of shape. Need to pull it where the metal spikes go into the body.

Don't PULL it off at all. Instead put some masking tape above and below the rub strip then get some fishing line and slip the line under the rub strip and saw it off. That way you don't damage the paint on the rub strip or the paint on the rest of the car.

when you do get the side strip off the 3M trim tape comes in different thickness and most auto parts stores dont have the correct thickness , make sure to measure what you have VS what you can buy, if you dont get the correct thickness the strips wont stick well and will come off.
Note you can buy the correct tape from the dealer its in the PET
