Default Tensioner dry.....problem?

After finishing my T-belt re-tension (much easier job than I expected) I added oil to the tensioner. It took 3 or more ounces before any bled out. I am guessing it was dry as the oil that came out appeared new. What are the consequences of running with a dry tensioner?

now that its filled none,
However the fluid in the tensioner is responsible for heat transfer and also to provide a dampening factor to the tensioner piston.
If the tensioner was empty then its leaking from the rear gasket and thus this gasket should be replaced and the tensioner boot also replaced and then my suggestion to use STP oil to refill the tensioner. It takes about 3 oz to fil an empty tensioner

It is my understanding that tensioner rebuild requires belt removal. Since my belt is new, along with a couple of new tensioner parts , I think I will just watch it and refill as needed for now.

Motor oil. Guess it will come out fast if the gasket is bad. STP next time.

if its leaking you will notice the front of the oil pan is wet ( under the tensioner) and there should be drips from near the underside of the AC compressor onto the ground
