Has anyone fabbed, or are there aftermarket conversions for, auto window switches?
Hi folks,
I know that in the GTS they had relay controlled window switches, which included some interesting features, like only controlling one of sunroof, left, or right window at a time, but being able to queue up commands to open or close all three. Currently I have an '88 S4, which has the older, non-relay switches. I'm wondering if there are aftermarket kits or if anyone here has done a DIY project to add auto down / auto up functionality to the older cars (preferably while adding relays to stop the switches melting internally).
Any thoughts/comments?
Thanks,
Paul

Yes there is. Order yourself a set of DEI 530T and 529T modules (usually cheapest on ebay), and they will do exactly what you are looking for.
the DEI will add one-touch to the factory switches, as well as allow for rollup with alarm arm, and vent with auxilary channel.

Can I use the DEI 530T and 529T modules in my GTS to add auto-up? Matter of pers. preference, but I find auto-up generally more useful than auto-down.
Do other cars offer asymmetric auto movement, and if so, I wonder which auto-direction is more common?

Tom,
Yes, you can use the DEI products to add auto-up, as well as up on alarm arm... etc with your GTS. However, its not as simple as the pre90 cars as you have to bypass the factory 1-touch system. Essentially, you need to tap into the door harnesses underneath the dash, and get the direct window feeds after the factory 1-touch module, then run those 4 wires back to the DEI unit. Its not complicated, just requires running a bit more wire under the dash, and cutting some factory wires on your body harness. It could easily be returned to stock, but some may not like the idea of cutting body harness wires.
