Here is what I do with my lifted car. If you look closely, the red stands aren't actually holding anything up - they are just a tad below the pivot point; same with the wood blocks. It's all there in the event the 4 primary fail. Car will drop less than an inch, and I'll have time to escape!

Thanks Ed. That looks like one solid set-up. I'm making a comittment to myself and my family to change the way I get and keep this thing off the ground. I'm getting some stout lumber, a couple more jack stands, and asking for Porken's liftbars for the upcoming b-day.
I had a riding lawn mower land on my arm a few years ago. It hurt and took me a while to get loose, but thankfully I didn't loose the arm.
Thanks for the pics Ed.

Oh you leave the car sit on those lift bars? I thought you were to take those out and sit the car right on the stands... I personally wouldnt trust that.

The bars are designed to stay there with the stands underneath. In fact, there's no safe way to remove the bars once the car is up, short of depending in the front crossmember and rear suspension/transmission saddle.

Yes that's correct. The bars can't be removed once the car is lifted. I find them much safer than just the jacks at each lift point, and very stable. They link into the lift pads with, which makes them safer imho. Plus the jack stands fit better on the liftbars than they do sitting directly on the jack pads of the car.
