Default 928 water bridge dual stage torquing techniques

What is the proper technique when dual stage torquing is required i.e. 928 water bridge bolts (1st stage 10 NM; 2nd state 21 NM). Is second stage torquing done after engine component heat range is altered ?

Thanks.

I don't have your answer Ed...Do the workshop manuals give you any direction?

On my '88 I don't recall a two stage torque procedure but it was about two years ago when I put her together. Smarter people will enlighten us both.

Mike,
I have checked the WSM and did not find any guidance. It is either a rotational torque procedure i.e. wheel lug nuts without altering engine temp, or one requiring a second retorquing once engine heat range is acquired.
It is almost worth purchasing a 928 just to be able to dialogue with the Rennlist team.

Thanks,
ed

If the torque spec is 21 NM then I would not torque to only 10 and run the engine. The two step torque procedure is always a good idea to minimize the potential that you twist the part being installed. In this case I would torque in 2 steps on the installation but go back after the engine has been thermo cycled and re-torque.
