At least he is probably telling the truth about the mileage.I have seen WAYYY too many supposed low mileage 928's out there for me not to believe their mileage is suspect at best.

Let's see: It took 25 years to go 67000 miles on my '85. So, sometime around the year 2153, or after Zephram Cochrane perfects warp drive, I'll brake 450K on my 928.

That's impressive.

Even more impressive is how nice the car looks. Would be interesting to look and drive it to see how it drives compared to a lower mileage car. I always wonder how much mileage affects the chassis and overall stiffness.

I hit a bump one time, looked down and my car said 740,000 miles. How do we know the odometer gear isn't screwy on that car also?

Somebody realized that these cars are meant to be driven. That's Awesome. I heard that the motors are meant to last 500K before rebuilding.

I love that the car has been driven and not some Garage Queen someplace! Now I know how to price the 1980 5-speed with 45,000 miles!

If any of you think $7,000 is a good price for a car with 450,000 miles on it, please pass over what you're smoking....

I respect the fact a 928 can travel 450,000 miles (and more!), but at least be realistic on the price.

Just one, just like the Porsche.

A better question would be, how many times is the motor going to be out of a Corvette to get these kind of miles.

If you can really say such a thing only based on looking at three numbers and without actually inspecting the state of the car, then I thank you and the other myriad of people that think like you Mine has over 225k miles and looks/drives better than ~75% of 928's out there. I'm half way to 450k

Even back in the late seventies, I remember seeing cars with high mileage running fine. So, 450,000 isn't unusual for someone who takes care of their car. And while I can't really speak for every american car; but I've owned several high mileage cars and so have my friends, with zero motor work, all around 300k miles when sold, so it's not inconceivable that they would have made it to 450k. The key, of course, is oil. Good, clean, cool, changed regularly, and topped up, let the engine warm up a bit before driving off (this might be contrary to current teaching, but it worked for me quite well in the past so I keep doing it). The mustang would smoke a little on if it sat in traffic and heated up, but none of the other cars did. From my limited memory: '66 mustang 289 v8, '67 tempest straight six OHC, '70 ford torino 302 v8, ford econoline van with the 300 six, 77 Jeep cherokee 258 six, 86 wagoneer 360 v8, 87 little cherokee 4 liter six, (same block as the 258), 65 Dodge coronet 318 v8, 68 nova 250 six, there were a couple more but I can't remember. This was back when I worked in the delivery dept of a newspaper, and we were all on the road most of our day. Our job depended on our cars, so we took care of them. Some of these cars leaked oil around the main seals, but no blue smoke from the exhaust. Take care of a modern (post 1960 or so) engine and it will last a long, long time, usually long enough for the body of the car to fall apart first. Same with many of the trannys, put in a big cooler and change the fluid. Our cars have coolers for everything, hopefully they will last forever. The 450k miler mentioned is proof they can.
