I spent a rather frustrating hour last night trying to put a new hood emblem on my car, without success. I can't seem to get the gasket stretched onto the emblem, so I can install the two as a unit. The emblem and gasket are brand new, obtained as a kit from 928Intl. The gasket is very slippery and I just can't seem to get it to stay on one end of the emblem while I stretch it over any other end. The new emblem I got does not have any real bevel on the edges to catch the gasket with while the old one has a definite bevel to the edges. The old emblem is also somewhat more flat overall than the new one. So, does anyone have any tips about how I might get this done? TIA.

Try heating the gasket with a hair dryer if it still slips off I would put some adhesive on the one end. Let it dry and repeat on the other end. It should stick long enough to stretch to size of emblem.

I had the same exact problem putting the amblem on my brother's S4. Gave up after screwing around for half an hour. Noticed the same issue with the contour of it too and was told that Porshe only sells this kind and it superseeds the original flat ones.

I put little strips of masking tape radially around the gasket and then when the badge was getting kind of snug I pulled each of the strips of tape out and in doing that pulled the gasket out into position. I was worried that I would be left with tape pieces under the badge, but they pulled loose at just the right time. I think I put the tape on the face of the gasket, but I think I would do it again with the tape under the gasket.

Something else you might try is to wrap a small string around the pins of the badge before you put the pins in the holes then when the badge is getting snug pull the string out radially as you tighten the caps on the pins. that will help get the little lip on the gasket outside as the badge gets tight.

IIRC, we ended up wetting the gasket with water and just stretching it out to fit over the gasket.

Well, I got the emblem installed. Thank you all for the helpful responses. I thought Jerry's suggestion of the tape strips was just inspired. However, I wasn't able to make it work for me. The tape didn't hold on for long enough. I'm sure with the right tape, at the right temperature, manipulated with the right fingers, this could work. I considered going with Imre's approach (give up), but decided to persevere. I was, eventually, able to get Hagen's solution of progressive gluing to work. First I tried a good quality 3M rubber cement I had but the gasket still pulled free during the final stretching. I then used an adhesive I had on hand called "Shoe Goo". I first glued along the top, then one edge, then the other edge, then pulled it over the tip at the bottom. This was over a couple of days. If I were to do it again I might try it starting from the bottom as the tip of the gasket got a bit chewed up while I was wrestling it into place. All in all, a much more difficult task than it would appear to be.
