Default It's ALIVE!..... but maybe sick!

Close to 60 degrees today so I started up the toys. The 83 started up after a battery charge but had a lifter ticking. I let the car run for some time but the lifter never quieted down. This happened when I first got the car running after I bought it. I'm hope it quiets down again. Anyone have any experience like that?

Sounds like its cold there - what weight oil are you running? I am running 5w-40 in several cars here where temps range 10-40C or 50-105F, and NEVER get ANY lifter noise, even in the Miata which are prone to it as they age. 928 hot idle pressure ~2.5bar. Noisy lifters need LOWER weight oil, not higher to fix, at least temporarily.

Driving them usually will make the lifter noise go away. Maybe it also needs a good oil change.

How long has the car been sitting? I would give the car a little more running time before I was concerned. Yes, an oil change might be in order as well.

You need to drive it and get the oil up to proper temp.

Then put in 1litre of ATF and drive for 500 km then do an oil change this should help.

Thanks everyone. I changed the oil before I put it up for the winter. I can't remember what weight oil but it is what is recomended for the car. It sounds like others have had this happen. I was more curious than concerned again thank you to everyone for your input.
