My Shark Don't Like Water ????
My Shark Don't Like Water ????
I have a 1991 GT that I have owned for a little more than two weeks now.
I purchased the car in PA and Earl did some work on it, TB etc.
I have been timid in driving the car hard until the new belt had some time/miles on it.
The belt was checked and readjusted and I thought that it was time to have the G force make me smile.
Last week, I took the car out after a raining night. Long, heavy, FL rain. The car performed poorly upon demand. When I pushed the peddle down there was no power and a groaning sound until I lifted up on the accelerator. Light use the performance was fine. However, no peddle almost or all the way down joy.
The next day I took the car out to check it and it went through the paces fine.
Yesterday, I washed the car and later that day I took it out for some exercise. To my chagrin the same issue appeared. Upon heavy throttle demand it lost power and groaned.
Today, I took it out and there was no problem. What the hay is this ??????
What will make this land shark so timid of water ?

What condition are the spark plug wires in? If they are old you might be having an issue with the insulation having cracks throughout. When you add water to the mix it can cause the car to perform badly. An easy way to check this is with a spray bottle of water. Spray a fine mist around the wires if you see any arching you have found your problem. It's best to do this at night.

put a battery cable on the battery ground then to chassis ground see if that changes performance. Make sure you have a hot post cover fitted and if you dont clean the hot post stud connections (11mm stud) then open the 14 pin connector above it clean the pins with and eraser.
Check the CE panel; see if there is water tell tale drips , if so the blower box may be leaking water onto the CE panel. get a fuse chart and remove the fuses and clean them with an eraser then do the same for the relays smell the relays for burns any relay thats burning or has corroded pins should be opened clean the relay pins with the eraser.
My guess is that you ground strap is dirty/corroded.
Also with the battery disconnected clean the pos. and neg. terminals of the battery

Check the condition of the coil wires, especially the driver's side. Clean all coil connections and make sure that the coil wires do not touch any metal or other wire harnesses.

I second the coil suggestion ... sounds like you're losing half the engine.
In addition to the coil wires, try to look into the coil connector.
I've had similar issues and found some corrosion in one of the coils.
I've replaced both coils this winter. but not sure if it did the trick yet ... should have the car on the road in about a month.
