Disassemble A/C Controller?

Disassemble A/C Controller?
The numbered fan speed indicator no longer turns with the ****. I'd like to poke around inside my A/C controller to see if it's a simple fix.
Any pointers for cracking the controller?
How do I remove the sliders to get the face off?

its not an easy fix so its best to leave it alone .
the fan controller is encased in its own box once you open the HVAC housing and you may damage it beyond repair, then you will need a complete HVAC unit

Just take it out - most of it dissassembles easily & obviously. Remove the 'H' Shaped thin surround, that exposes the screws at each end - remove these and then it slides out forward & you remove the connectors to get it out completely clamshell halves unscrew...

I took mine apart a couple of years ago due to the sliders not engaging properly.
I do recall it being a bit tricky to figure out how to take it apart, but from my perspective, it was already broken ... I either repair or replace it. Fortunately, I was able to repair it and it now functions as it should.
I wish I could recall more, but I do remember that it was more finesse rather than force. If it seems like you're going to break something, you're probably doing it wrong. If I'm not mistaken, I vaguely recall that the sliders pull out through the front once you take enough of the unit apart.
Bottom line, it can be taken apart and reassembled ... success will depend on skill and patience.

Talk about timing...I just removed mine about 1 hour ago. As stated above, remove the H shaped trim (be sure to remove the stereo since the trim goes behind it) and remove the screws - 6 in total (2 on the AC switch unit). Remove the wiring harness and out it comes. I just had to replace the bulb so i don't know about the **** assembly. The engineering may have been state of the art at the time, but having to remove the entire HVAC unit and opening it up just to change a bulb seemed a little overkill to me.

replacing the bulb is easy compared to trying to take the fan switch apart.
That said if you give the fan **** a good pull and wiggle is should slide off the shaft.
Then you will see the gears that run the indicator. to get further into this you will need to remove the front pnael of the HVAC unit this will entail removing the slider ***** and they will have to be destroyed upon removal so buy a new set of these.
Once this is done you have the front panel off then you may find a broken shaft that the pinion gear runs on so in effect you wont be able to fix this part unless you replace the whole HVAC unit.
As stated previously leave it alone

Slightly OT...in order to remove the sliders, I broke off the tabs that lock the switch into place then super glued them back in. I have not put the sliders back in yet, they seemed pretty sturdy. I'll see if they hold, otherwise I'll have to get new ones.
