OB with headers, adding a x-pipe to it?

I have MSDS headers on my 79. It has a Y pipe that splits into duels all the way back.
I recently purchased some Euro cams and they will be installed soon. I see that the 928 motorsport header x pipe will fit my headers. It seems that the x pipe helps with the headers in the TQ dept.
Has anyone ever dyno'd their car with headers and then added a x pipe? Was there a difference? Are there worth while gains to be had?

No one has added a xpipe after headers? I have read a billion exhaust threads and it seems that the x-pipe on the 32v were added first. Seemed like louie got a gain in headers after the x-pipe but that needed to be fined tuned with the shark tuner. None of that fancy stuff w/ the OB.![nono](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/nono.gif)
Adding Euro cams to a 4.5L, I have consistently read threads that they really wake up the OB (topend) I have also read that some stated a drop in TQ and others have not. One common thread in the ones that seemed to have lost some TQ was the fact that they had euro heads also and some of those were on 5.0L swap.
Thats the reason for the question in regards to TQ. The Y pipe is the common way and I have seen a X into a Y.
Either way on what I decide to do with the exhaust I will post some dyno's for the few of us out there that are interested in gains on a OB.![Big Grin](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

If you have a properly sized single exhaust with a well made, good flowing Y connector. There might not be anything to gain with an X-pipe and dual exhaust.

In my opinion, nothing beats the 'ol "O" pipe.

The front damper on the Euro S (dual exhaust) does the same thing as a X-pipe (probably - I have no evidence it does). The two perforated pipes running through the same box allows pressure to bleed from one pipe to the other just like the X-pipe.
Maybe this is something to consider for you?

I have heard much different..."Adding Euro cams to a 4.5L, I have consistently read threads that they really wake up the OB (topend) I have also read that some stated a drop in TQ and others have not. One common thread in the ones that seemed to have lost some TQ was the fact that they had euro heads also and some of those were on 5.0L swap. ..." customers who tried it said they HAD to rev it to make any power BUT BIG BUT due to the intake restrictions there was little gains at the top.... so about all you will do is make more noise. But please dyno so we KNOW for sure. If Porsche had seen a big HP increase just by dropping S cams into the 4.5 why would they have bothered to increase displacement , raise compression ,add bigger valves and make bigger intake runners and throttle body ? It cost the same to make either cam and the "gains" would have been FREE ! The Euro front resonator being a resonator is not going to add scavenging the plus of the X is getting all 8 cylinders pulsing into the same collector which helps correct the uneven firing order of each bank of cylinders.

I had my tech install an x pipe on my track car. I never dynoed the before and after comparison but my assometer tells me I have more lower end grunt.
Plus she sounds wicked at WOT.
I used the stock S2 exhaust pipes. My tech worked the angles and flow numbers - all in all he said it was a great setup (doesnt look too pretty).
The x pipe was like 90 dollars plus labor.

James At this point I am committed! We will see
and I will dyno.
Eventually when money allows I will be adding the rest of the euro goodies so all won't be lost.![thumbup](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/thumbup.gif)
Actually one of the reasons to doing this is to provide dynocharts as I go from cams to adding heads then adding the intake intake to see which ones add what power. Should be a cool comparison. Eventually ending with a 5.0L hybrid. Nitrous will be added along the way for fun!

I have MSDS headers into a Y into a single 3". I think this is about the best solution for the 16v cars. You could run an X and duals, but I doubt their would be any benefit.
When I put Euro heads/cams on my 4.7 torque stayed exactly the same. It just gained horsepower over 4000 rpm.
