You cannot order with "sample" options/colors like the ole days...... However, EVERYTHING is an option! You want floor mats; that will be $150 please. You want colored wheel caps? That will be another $150 please.... Wood, 6CD player, Ipod interface, park sensors, 14 way power seats, heated seats, sat rad, bluetooth, full leather, air suspension, window screens... on and on are ALL options! Anything but standard black or white cost $'s too.....

We went with black (black alcantara headliner too). Porsche's light colored interiors look like they would get dirty/dingy looking quickly since they are sooooooo light and you do not have the option to deviate the carpet color to a darker color.....

Sorry, but for me it has nothing to do with purism. There are many new cars that have an awesome design. I don't even care if it looks nothing like a 928, but the Panamera really looks ugly. In fact, I wish they made it look more like a corvette or an aston-martin (isn't that the opposite of purism?) The design reminds me of a squashed Infinity SUV. Overly short windows and look at that tall door that extends all the way down, looks like elephant man got crushed. It's almost like it is trying its hardest to look "fat". For a company that prides itself in their design department, they really dropped the ball on this one IMO.

It's a 400k car over here!I've never seen one on the road here but at the dealer. There's a black one for display at the Porsche Dealer. It's very nice! & only can dream about it
In 92- a Porsche 928 GTS would costs over 275k!! & that's without the tax.

You guys crack me up. Some of you are begining to sound more and more like the purist "air cooled" guys about the 928 and Porsche in general....... Aging and stuck in the past! Careful or time will leave you behind like it did most of them. Have an open mind......
I've been blessed in my life and have had the good fortune to experience most large European sedans including the S-class (S55), 7-series (3 times), Audi S8 (2 times) and Maserati Quattroporte (Sport GT). When I actually drove the Panamera I was completely blown away. The 4S is a sub 5 second 0-60, the interior design is the best I've ever seen and the PDK trans is magnificent (IF it's the only trans in the coupe it will not be a bad thing.....)!
As for the styling, after seeing it in person a few times I really like it. I know not all will like it (we're not buying it hoping all will like it....), I have a good friend who is a long time car guy (not just a one model, one manufacturer car guy) who had the 1st PTT ordered locally but when he saw the car in Monterey walked away from his order. Even when I first saw the car I wasn't wild about it. In the right color with the right options and the right wheels it's a great looking car. There are many cars out there that I didn't care for when I first saw them but later actually owned a couple; the 996 and the MBZ CLS being two of those cars. I don't like every 928 I see either... Wrong color, wrong wheels.... I don't dislike all 928s b/c of it though...
Here's another great looking Panamera (in my opinion anyway.....)

I agree that the Panamera Interior is light years ahead of most of the cars available on the market. In fact I think the Panamera's interior exceeds anything I've seen with exception to maybe the Spyker (but I wouldn't consider that a production car).
My only concern with the more modern Porsche's are their build quality. I guess I've always had the opinion that Porsches are not only sporting but also reliable and well built. Seems some of the modern cars are not living up to this standard.

I'm not worried about the build quality. We've had 3 brand new Cayennes in the last 6 years (the last a 2008 GTS) and build quality has never been an issue.....

that makes a $145k price tag seem like a bargain

Not everyone is going to appreciate the look of the Panamera just like not everyone appreciates the look of the 928...... That's cool with me, I don't really care. I like lots of other makes/models and my opinions are not necessarily shaped by what others think. Nobody said that just b/c we all love the 928 we have anything more than that in common. My point of that post is/was that some in this group are starting to sound like the only car they will ever appreciate is the 928 in it's previous form much like a lot of "purists" who will only ever appreciate the air cooled cars and anything Porsche produced after its demise will never be a true Porsche simply b/c they do not care for it. The numbers who think like that are a declining bunch who are more and more an "outsider" when it comes to the Porsche community or even in a broder sense the car hobby in general. Pretty soon it will be a bunch of old guys hanging out around their old cars..... That's not for me, hence my comment about having an open mind.
