Default Engine mini shocks replace?

I installed Rogers delrin rack bushings last night and while I was in there I zapped a bolt out of one of the mini shocks to check it's movement. How do i know if they are shot? It had significant resistance in and out. Are they suppose to rebound because mine definately didn't.

The shot ones I had slipped in and out with almost no resistance.

Just a motion damper, not a gas spring. If it's hard to move it's fine.

We stock the OEM Stabilus engine dampers for $50 each.

Here's my experience. The little shock piston stays in the middle of the bore 95% of the time. Never really reaching the end of its travel. Last year I started to notice the intake runners were touching the hood padding under hard take off. When I replaced both engine shocks, the originals had what I felt as good resistance (lesser resistance in mid travel area), But the replacement shocks were twice as stiff.
Think of it this way, replacing the 28 year old little shocks is good insurance for your hood alignment!

Did all model years come with engine shocks? My 84 euro does not have them.

Here is great discussion that starts with a great picture related to this subject

https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...hat-shock.html

I kinda think that having both front and back mini's in place would do something good, any thoughts?
