Default Headlight Motor Gears?

So when I traded for the 80 928, I was told the headlights worked perfect... When you turn the switch on, the motor spins and hums, but the lights do not flip. There is a whole in the radiator where I assume the e-clip came off and the arm smacked the cooler.

Question: Is there a gearbox on the motor that drives the arm? I can manually spin the **** and twist the headlight bar until it engages. The motor will take them the rest of the way up; however, once they are down, they will not come back up without this help. Anyone take apart the motor?

Yes, there is a gearset inside the motor. The gears are not available separately, so if your gears are actually stripped, your best bet is to find a used motor/gearbox. The P/N for your car is 928 624 021 00

I thought the gears almost never failed, unlike a Corvette where you keep spares and need them, often.
