Given that the front of the car has tow hooks where should car be properly secured in the rear?

I seem to recall a thread that mentioned suspension parts that could be bent if not correctly secured.

I have straps and chains.

The AAA Automotive at Heathrow UK recommends the following for all Porsche vehicles being transported:

Use only 4 wheel strap tie-downs to secure the vehicle to the car carrier.

Ensure that the straps clear the vertical spokes of wheels to acoid cutting the straps or damagine to wheels. Never route the straps around spokes for tie-down.

Once the vehicle is secured on the carrier bed, release the winch tension to avoid undue stress on the eyebolt and the vehicle suspension, but do not disconnect the wire rope.

The vehicle should not be winched closer than three feet to the winch due to the pull down force on the eyebolt.

It can be seen from the above that it is not recommended to attach chains to eyebolts or to the two eyes just forward to the engine, as the suspension will be loaded down and the movement of the suspension will be restricted and could be subject to shock loading when the transported hits a bump in the road, as the movement of the suspension is restricted in a vertical direction.

From previous post and information, do not secure chains or straps to the flat steel suspension arm of the rear suspension, as these can be bent and in addition the suspension will be be loaded and again could be subject to shock loading.

Run straps through the wheels and tie the wheels down let the car bounce on it's suspension. Do that for all four corners ! Trying to hook to the chassis means you must compress the springs and that is a lot of force plus when you do hit bumps the movement of the body can put very high shock loads on the straps . Anderson once chased his race car down a steep hill jumping through the window getting it stopped before it ran away ......he saved it !

TMI!

The correct answer has been given: tie the the car down by the wheels.

I do want to plug Carl's combo rear tie-downs and swaybar adjusters. Got 'em, luv 'em. Not the right thing for a trailer, but for pulling the car or on a chassis dyno they are the way to go.
