Hmm, Dioctyl phthalate, Sigma-Aldrich # D201154, $23ish for 500 ml. Wonder if they have a sacrificial dry dash at 928intl?......

I did the angel hair bondo thing on mine a couple years ago. Although it's much better than it was, sure enough... it now has a few spider cracks in the dash and pod. Before that, I had so many cracks I tried a lot of different stuff to compare how well each worked--to include window calk. Nothing really worked. Too much expansion and contraction I guess. I think Rob Budd's got the right idea--bondo the hell out of it and then recover it.

Is anyone interested in ordering some of this stuff (Dioctyl phthalate)? I'm considering monkeying with my dash, and I can get some to try if anyone is interested. We should probably try it on a spare dash/pod to make sure it won't damage the vinyl first...

Just read the wiki entry on this stuff and you might want to pay attention to this particular entry...
Smaller ***** size and other feminizing links
DEHP metabolites measured from the blood of pregnant women have been significantly associated with the decreased ***** width, shorter anogenital distance, and the incomplete descent of testes of their newborn sons, replicating effects identified in animals.[6] Approximately 25% of US women have phthalate levels similar to those in the study.[6]

Meh. Observational studies are generally garbage and wiki is a terrible source for primary literature. I'll see if I can find the paper they're referencing, but everything is dangerous in the right quantity. Watch out for used motor oil, coolant, etc...

Okay. I looked up that paper. Basically they claim that there is an average 4% decrease in anogenital distance when going from the 25th percentile of exposure to the 75th percentile exposure. Unfortunately, they offer no indication of other important correlation, like, is the dose in te parents for those hildren also high, or even an actual number. The statistics seem solid, but that study is of little practical value in guiding a person in terms of what level is safe. Also it's only for infantile/prenatal exposure. You could probably bathe in the stiff and it wouldn't affect you. So the moral of the story is keep your pregnant wife and son away from plastics. HAHA good luck with that one...

Check out 3M # 05895 EZ sand flexible part repair - and 3m Scotch-weld epoxy adhesive DP-420 ( black, but comes in other colors). I used them both in the past with good success, they work particularly well on the front ( plastic) cover on our cars, also.
