CV boot Nightmare!
So about a month ago i re did the CV boots on my axles. well today as i was re attaching the rear sway bar links i notices that the driver inner CV boot came off like the hose clamp was not there. so as much as i HATED the idea, i took the axle out and re did the boot tighten the clamp, got to reinstall and.............. came off again!!!!!!!!!!!
So i take it out again and this time i drove to home depot to get a bigger hose clamp. i sprayed a little adhesive on the metal shoulder, slipped on the boot, tighten the bigger clamp, went to re install it on the wheel side postion this time... and BAM! it came off again. so after take the axle out again, and re gluing and re clamping (origional this time) i am going to let it sit overnight before i snap.
thoughts? is it just cursed?

Why are you using hose clamps?
That may be part of your problem, use the correct type clamps, make sure the boot and the mating surface is free of any grease, clean with good brake clean.
I use a tool like this to install the clamps and have never had one come off.

CV boot clamps? I do not know the nomenclature of the clamps.
It is the same kind of clamp that the factory puts on them and some other hoses, like the PS return hoses.
They are about half the width of a hose clamp and I think that is the reason his are coming off.

if you still have problems just use a good quality zip tie.
You dont have to make it super tight but a bit tighter than snug HD has the good zip ties they are 20.00 for a bag of 100 they have metal blades in the setting block.
OR you can go to A zone and buy the stainless zipties these might be a better choice.
Also there are early and late type CV boots do you know if you have the correct type?

Zip ties are a option I guess, better to use a zip tie than a hose clamp, but I have seen zip ties come off, but the boot might not have been clean when installed.

Try removing the tie from the small end and move it toward the CV joint then tighten the large clamp. Lower the car and remove the jack so the car is at its regular ride height then put a new tie on the small end. This should remove any lateral tension that is pulling the boot off the joint.

The large end of the boot looks way too small a diameter for the sleeve it's supposed to fit on. CV boots don't normally require much stretching at all to fit on the sleeve.
Sure you got the correct boot ?

IIRC there was a change to boot and sleeve - later sleeves have a DEEP groove (1/4" ??) and the boots have a matching lip to fit in the groove - all to address exactly this problem. My 83 has these later sleeves and boots, and my local wrench knew about it. My boots had retainer clips a bit like metal cable ties - pull a tongue through an eye, tighten (with a tool), and bend the tongue end over to lock it. If you have these they can be re-used by adding a small hole (3/32") to enable a needle nose plier to engage and tighten before bending tongue over.

after cleaning them up and roughing up the the metal flange with a little sand paper, she was snug but went on and seams to be staying on. now if the others dont decide to fall off i should be good. anyone get pictures of this update?
