Shark Tuner Mk2 Experience
Yesterday I bought a Shark Tuner Mk2 from JDS Porsche so I could play around with it and learn how to map my racer. The ST is a nice piece of kit - I always think that it is a good sign, when the product looks professionally made.
Installation on my laptop running Windows 7 was a doddle and soon we were off to the races. Err, not quite, but John was happy to sit in the passenger seat and walk me through the various functions of the ST2. Working with it proved very easy and intuitive even for a complete nonce like me. The results were quick to come - Porsche left a lot of power and driveability on the table. The car is currently running a GT engine which has been blue-printed and balanced, 928 Intl headers into a custom X-pipe and a custom exhaust. We managed to advance ignition by over 12degrees from 4000 to 7000rpm before we got any knocking whatsoever. The LH map was just touched with the Autotune option as this was not meant to be a full blown mapping session, but more of a demonstration of what the ST2 was capable of.
As you have probably gathered by now, yesterday was a mere pre-amble to what is to follow. I cannot wait to do some data logging and then get to the business of some serious mapping. The old GT engine certainly has a lot left in it. Once my GTS lump goes in with the 968 valves and Colin's cams, things should get very interesting.
For now though, a big thumbs up to John and his product.

P.S. I know that you can get MegaSquirt or other systems on a 928 as Colin has shown, BUT... I am very mechanically minded, but cannot face the idea of writing a map from scratch for my 928 for example, thus I love the simplicity of John's product...

Thanks Alex, it was good fun riding "shotgun" with race seat, full 5 point harness, try to stop the laptop moving around when you accelerated :-)
I have seen before that fitting headers and a less restrictive exhaust requires the EZK timing to be advanced significantly. You car also has GT cams that have 1mm more lift than stock.
