Custom Plates

On my Euro '92 I am actually running Euro plates (kind of doubt that is legal, but I have had several folks pull me over for other stuff and when I say something about it they are like, "I don't care.")...
It is an "D" plate, so in the blue on the far left there is a D for Germany, then the custom part of it is:
TX followed by a space w/ each of the Euro registration and inspection stickers, then 92GTS which is my real custom plate number. I'll see if I can find a pic of it tomorrow and post it...

I get the impression that in the USA a custom plate is not too expensive.
I paid 1200GBP for the plate on my car which is as close to JDS 928 S as I could afford.
Plates with fewer numbers and letters (very old plates) can cost tens of thousands of pounds.

Can you request a particular number/letter combination in the USA ? Here you can only use a plate that has been previously issued.
So there is an active market in people selling desirable plates. Which can be transferred from one vehicle to another .
The plates from 1965 onwards always had some form of year identifier , and limits what combinations of numbers and letters that are available.
You can't use a plate on your car which makes you can appear younger than it really is.

And, they have a censor group so nothing that could be deemed offensive.
Mine say "V8 928" with a Texas star between V8 and 928.

Lucky people !! The goverment here took a dim view of custom plates, but then realised they could make a lot of money selling plates from cars that had been scrapped, these being desirable, low number/letter combinations.
Now thay have auctions to obtain the best prices.
The UK press car "THE 928S" plate was up for sale some while ago, for some thing like 10,000GBP.
I see 928 S is available here at the moment, perhaps if I win the lottery :-)

Here in TX, most of the good 928 combinations are taken, BUT, there is what they call the "T" plate design, where there is a "T" on the far left with a different color background (T for Texas), and it opens up many of the good combinations. I just checked and I could get "T 928S", but I don't want to pay $95 extra per year, so not gonna happen.
It's handled through www.myplates.com

Don,
Maybe they have gone up in price I think mine was $80/year extra and that seemed fair to me considering our registration is only like $55...in CA it is based on value and my GTS's would cost more than $400/year to register.
MUCH cheaper than in GB for sure!
