Eventually I will keeping my 928 ('87) in the NYC area. Can anyone make a suggestion for a shop in the NYC, NJ or even NY suburbs of CT that knows how to work on 928s.
Thanks,
Dave

ken told me I needed to change my engine because I had low compresion, Jim Bailey told me to buy my own tool and verify the diagnosis; the numbers were good........4-6 years later I'm still flogging my '82 and she is still running like the wind, maybe a bad day for Ken but I'm glad he didn't get me to lay down. Get together with owners and get help or read the forum for guidance 1st before putting all your trust and cash in someone's pocket.........just my experience..."own a POR SHA = get $ raped", I had 1 satifactoy/ good experience with a shop in LIC sorry I don't remember the gentleman's name....he really did a great job with my TB/WP and front engine reseal, I was just starting out with the sharkaholic madness.

If you are looking north of the city, try Rennwerke, Cheech Fernandez, in Elmsford, 914-592-4006. I only have had a PPI done there, but he has a full shop (races) and there were several sharks on the lot with some really nice Pcars, 914s, 911s. Not cheap.
On LI, Frankwrench (last name Perry I think) in Bohemia, has his own shop, maybe a little cheaper, 631-567-6127.

Any thoughts on Formula Motorsports (http://www.formulamotorsports.com)? Comes well recommended from a friend with a 911, but I obviously have had no experience with them.

You can also consider someone like Capt Earl in PA. Do a user search on this fourm and you can find him. Send him a PM. He's a retired engineer and 928 lover who does his own work. Trustworthy and well respected on this fourm. It's a nice 2 hour drive from NYC to him and you can take the train home if needed.

Jason in Plainview Long Island. Jason is unbelievable when it comes to exotic cars. So many of us are going to him now. He is a theory guy with hands on experience.

It might be a long haul but Protosport in Pompton Plains NJ 973-839-5353 is worth looking into. He works on my GTS and all of my cars along with numerous 928's from this forum. In one case he easily fixed a probelm that multiple threads here could not figure out.
Then again he had the car in front of him which makes it easier to diagnose. In fairness to those who tried to help.
I always recommend calling and talking to any mechanic for a while before trusting them with my car.

I looked at my records...... "Formula Motorsports" in LIC phone 718-482 0515, I'm still enjoying the benefits of good service on my '82 from there in October'02. Best of luck wherever you choose. Daggg.... looking in the file was a painful reminder of the hurting I got in the beginnings; also found ken's sweet bill.

A lot of people in the mid-Atlantic area (actually from New England to TN, MI, etc.) have their work done by Earl Gillstrom just outside Philadelphia. He's a retired IBM technician and race car mechanic in a "previous life". He does maintenance work on several dozen 928's at his home garage - mechanical, electrical, and AC. He has restored his '91 GT that was totaled by insurance companies 3X to showroom condition. Rates are far better than an independent, and he will take you to the train station for the train back to NYC, do the work, then pick you up when done. Those who have him as their maintenance mechanic are very pleased. Earl's e-mail is: captearlg@gmail.com
Gary Knox
928 Owners Club Treasurer (and a neighbor/friend of Earl's. He does everything on my 2 current 928's and the previouys 4 that I don't do).
PS: David Lloyd no longer works at Musante Motors (I think he left there about 6-12 months ago).
