Opinions?
Kinnelon, NJ, is next town over from me. I'll take a look at the car if you want. I'm not a pro, but my current 928 is my third. I could drive it and look at it and give my impression. Let me know.

I doubt that the fender or hood have been replaced on that car, and unfortunatly on a 86 you dont know.

The reason is that if you look at the engine bay it becomes clear that the car was origonally black. (compair to Landseer's picture).

I do agree that the red car has a HORRIBLE paint job. To paint over the light surrounds, and the black trim is simply stupid! I am guessing that they painted over the quarter panel window seals too.

I think that this car is worth between $2500-4500 depending on the condition of a few parts. And if it has LSD.

But a properly sorted 5 speed is worth extra to me as the manuals are so much more fun!

Dan Brindle has a nice PPI Checklist, too.

Good luck with your (continuing, right?) search. You were right to step back for a bit and think and ask. Give yourself some time to follow this forum and eBay's completed listings. You'll be glad you did.

Buying your first 928, on your own, is like going to court without an attorney. You're probably going to lose, but boy, are you going to learn some valuable but expensive lessons.

I've been a fan of the 928 for 30+ years, have owned three, and still have little confidence that I would manage to select a "good" one if I were shopping.

Colin I see that you may be correct about a color change, the hood was originally black as was the front pan by the hood latch receiver and they did a good job under the door jambs.
So this car has also had a color change. = Run fast
Another clue is the clamp for the wire harness above the right shock tower is missing as is the bolt that holds it and under this bolt area it looks black, though the fenders are painted with bolts installed

Dude-this is the car. You already know what it needs and who owned it:

You could get it all sorted fast.
