Fuel Pump problem car won't start
I bought a 1979 euro auto no start.
I cleaned out the engine and replaced all hoses, vacuum lines, sparkplugs, ignition coil, plugs, cap, rotor, battery, and it wouldn't start.
It gets a spark and cranks but doesn't start.
I found out that no fuel is getting to the injectors I kept checking and found that no fuel was getting past the fuel pump. I checked the fuel pump and it was getting power so I put in a new fuel pump and it still didn't start. I disconnected the negative cable to the battery took out the relay for the fuel pump and put the jumper in when I put the negative cable on again when made contact with the battery it made a spark. I assume that is normal. but the pump still didn't work so when I went to disconnect the negative cable it didn't give off a spark and I haven't been able to get it to do so. There is no power getting to the fuel pump since I have replaced the old fuel pump. when I turn the key a little all the lights on the dash are light up and when I crank it the red warning light stays on.
The red light on the dash staying on seems odd to me. Also a black button under the dash near the dial to dim or lighten the dash when I push it and try starting the car the speedo goes crazy going up and down. When I turn on the lights the dash light gets dimmer.
I think I need to clean all the fuses and grounds but I don't know where to start. And I am puzzled why the dash lights and speedo act wierd. Thanks

Step one get a Fire Bottle ready
Step two squirt fuel in the intake to get the engine and see it if run period
This will also send teh signal to the fuel pump to send some fuel.
Cold start injector is another culprit.
Others will tell you if the fuel pump runs only on demand. I THINK i saw this in another thread.
Good luck

Not exactly..."Others will tell you if the fuel pump runs only on demand. I THINK i saw ......." the pump runs momentarily while cranking the engine then is running as long as the engine is running but shuts down if the engine stops. You can test the pump by running jumper wires from the battery to the PUMP to see if it runs when you directly apply power and ground.

I replaced the cold start valve when I replaced the other items in the engine. I'll try starting it tonight would be reassuring to hear it start.
I thought about using jumper wires to the pump but I wasn't sure if that was ok but I'll try it.

Race Car
As Jim said, just run jumper wires directly to the pump and then try to start the car. Connect the wires to the pump FIRST, then to the battery. Fuel and sparks are a bad combination unless they are completely surrounded by lots of metal.

The fuel pump is under the car......the fuel level sender and RETURN fuel line is on top of the tank. You can also shoot some carb spray cleaner into the intake and see if the car fires , small amount ! The cold start injector (the 9 th one on the center of the intake plenum front) is supposed to spray when the engine is cold and light the fire but it needs fuel pressure to do that.

Thanks Guys, What happened is when I put the new fuel pump in it blew the fuse so there was no more power it blew because the PO but a 16 in where a 25 should be once I put in a 25 it worked great. I checked out the fuse relay chart at 928 specialist and replaced all my fuses but now my starter won't engage. I can manually start it from inside the engine so the starter is fine I assume that it has something to do with me replacing the fuses. I have a 1979 Euro auto are the order of Fuses any different from a American Spec?
