Stephen,

Have you pushed the "reset" button? If so then you have misentered the code to many times and the radio will need to be connected to power for 24 hours (or maybe it is 8, I can't remember) and then that reset button can be pushed and it should read "code" again and be ready for you to enter the correct code... Heck, maybe it just has to be on but reading "off" for 15 min... I don't have my manual handy and can't remember off the top of my head. This did happen to me once. I was doing the code from memory and well...lets just say that isn't a good idea! LOL!

I had a CD-2 in my 1989 944S2 with the BEA equalizer and 10 speaker option. It sounded great. CD started skipping in 1996 and I pulled it. I still have the manual and one of the two CODE cards still pasted to the back cover of the book. You should be able to use this to get your money back if need be. I was thinking of purchasing the unit on ebay, but was leary.

See pics. You will notice it is a 5 DIGIT CODE not 4. And numbered to 5. See instructions. Code can not have numbers over 6.

Best of luck my friend.

David

As info, I am quite sure the CD-2 was made by Alpine, not Becker or Blaupunkt. IF you find a source to obtain the CD-2 code, please list the source here, as I have one without a code as well!! Good Luck, hope you find the source.

Edit: Wrote this before reading David's very helpful post above. I think I now have "truth" about CD2 radio code.

Stephen, Mine reads "off" now after trying to enter my incorrect code too many times. I think it will reset itself in time or I can use the reset described by James. If you get lucky, please let me know.

I have tried two Porsche dealers here in Oregon and neither could help me.
Spoke with Stephan at SW Stereo and he said CD2 was a radio he could not get parts for and could not re-code as with some other models.
I think I have two boat anchors.

I sent seller an email last night. No response yet. Guess I will get to try the PayPal resolution process. I have the email from selller where he says it works and has code. Maybe he can tell me how to work it with the wrong code!

While the manual notes that there is a reset pin hole below the CD eject button, there is no description of the function of the reset. Give it a shot. You still do not have the CODE though.

If you paid by credit-card through paypal, then you may have better luck disputing the charge through your credit-card company, rather than paypal's dispute process. You can't do both.

It's been a couple of years, but when we went through this the paypal process wasn't very attractive: You submit your side of the story, they decide, and that's it-- no chance to interact or answer questions, and you must agree to accept their decision.

We submitted a claim through our credit-card company, had a couple of conversations with the them on the phone, and got a full refund in a reasonable time-frame. We were their customer, and they properly acted as our advocates. Surprised the heck out of me!

Good luck with this!

Stuck with Paypal. Funds from checking account. Thanks

Edit: Knew I was in trouble when the thing arrived postage due. Seller charged flat $25 shipping and handling, excessive but I wanted the CD2. Then he shipped it USPS "Media Mail". Post office opened it and said it didn't look like "bound printed material". I get it postage due, $8.40! He could have sent it Priority Mail Flat Rate for $10.35 and still profited $15!

Filed a "dispute resolution" claim through PayPal today. Sent seller a direct email on 30th with no response. Possible he is using work email as he apparently owns a business in Sarasota, Fl, and will respond on Monday, giving him the benefit of the doubt!.
Paypal first requires communication with seller. I asked for correct code or full refund to my PayPal account. If he does not respond, I then escalate to a PayPal Claim where they supposedly investigate and decide the matter. I believe they can dip into the sellers bank account or credit card if they choose to.
A couple of years ago I was notified that they were "holding" some funds from me, even though I had nothing in my account. I was confused because I knew of no existing dispute on anything I had sold. I tried to remove my credit card and bank account from PayPal. Computer would not allow it because of pending issue. Ultimately nothing happened. I am hoping PayPal can similarly grab funds from the seller in this case. We shall see.

James you were right the first time - after you enter the incorrect code 3 times it will show OFF and remaining connected to power for 24 hours will show CODE again.

Update on my CD-2. Pulled it out and saw a 5 digit number written on the back, 41333 punched it in an it worked. Bad news is there is no sound. I don't know if the amp is bad. When I had the door panel of the speakers were connected. I have no sound.

James the reset worked like a charm, Thanks. Maybe the head unit is bad?

You have solved the hard part Stephen. Amp/and connections to and from it are next. You should hear a "pop" through the speakers when you turn it on. I hear that with mine even when it is asking for a code. Sure wish someone had written the code on the back of the two I have!

Default I am a PayPal "believer"

As noted in my Jan. 2 post above, I filed a claim with PayPal on that date.
I simply described the history of my communication with the seller where he assured me the radio worked and he had the "actual code". Not sure if they were able to get to my Ebay messages directly, but maybe. Anyway, PayPal notified seller of my dispute and gave him until yesterday, 1/14 to respond.
To my knowledge he did not respond. Today I received an email from PayPal saying they had investigated, decided in my favor, and reclaimed $182.50 from seller's account and deposited in mine. Sure enough, I have the money in my account. When they promote using PayPal for security, I now believe.

So far, they have not asked me to return the radio. If they do, or the seller has the gall to ask, I will gladly do so, postage due! He charged me $25 shipping, then used "Media Mail" for lowest possible rate. USPS checked the package and charged me $8.40 postage due. I am out the $8.40. Considering the alternative, I am very happy. Anyone want a CD 2 with no code?

Is there a 'reset' function on the CR-1 radio? Maybe I can wake mine up?
