Ducman,

Jim is right on the money with the above post. All 928's came like that... cleaning the brown gunk off is a real PITA and takes patience and simple green or mineral spirits to help, but ultimately it takes great amounts of elbow grease!

Good luck!

Hi Joe--

Thanks for clarifying the caustic-free nature of your product.

There was no intent to mislead and I admitted that I could not see the whole label. I was very careful to state that I did not know what was in it, but that many degreasers with similar claims have sodium hydroxide in them and that it's important to have a careful look at the label before applying to the car. I hope you are not offended by my warning. I did not knock it, and I will try it.

Thanks again!

Let me first say that you are incorrect about Caustic (Sodium Hydroxide) in the formulation of Brown Royal cleaner. I will not go into specifics, but lets just say Brown Royal is made up of mostly water and surfactants and has only a few characteristics of other degreasers. I would also like to say that we post warnings on our labels to protect the consumer and to also protect us from liability if the product is used incorrectly.

The is no degreaser in the world that you can safely take inside of your body internally without causing danger to yourself. We recommend using eye protection and rubber gloves when using our product. Most people never do. I know women who use Brown Royal without wearing any type of protection. If it gets on your hands for a long period of time it will dry out your hands like any other alkaline cleaner. A little moisturizing creme will do the trick. Brown Royal is very concentrated and that is another reason for the warning label. Every cleaning product must have safety warnings. Its the law. OSHA.

I dont believe its wise to compare a cleaning agent used on a hard surface to the human body. There are many skeptics out there that cant believe Brown Royal works as well as it does. Its no trick and its not a scam. The videos you see on youtube are true and not fabricated. We have created a cleaner that works better than any other cleaning product on the market. In other words, do not knock something, until you try it. Thanks for your time.

non acid = ph not lower than 7.0
alkaline = ph over 7.0
caustic generally means alkaline
nahco3 (sodium hyroxide) is very caustic (alkaline)

hope that clears up nomenclature

i figured that is what that stuff was. it looked to much like the junk & gunk i cleaned out of a NIB mauser my dad had is storage. brake clean works wonders on that stuff. and yes the stock under coating is way better that is why it stays! plus i could not imagine trying to take THAT stuff off... ick..
but i did clean up the fronts and prime and paint them today over the stock undercoating. ill post some picks after i get the rears done.

Hi Dr Bob,

No offense taken. There are a lot of wheel cleaners on the market today. Some damage wheels and others do not clean very well. I really dont want to talk shop but caustic soda is also used to raise the ph in a cleaner. But many companies mostly depend on it for cleaning. That is where you can make a harsh product and etch a clear coated wheel. BTW, acid cleaners should be used only for chrome or stainless steel wheels.

It is a good idea to read labels and investigate a product before using it. Before I purchase a product whether it be a stereo, camera etc.
I first look for consumer reviews. Many consumers do not believe the claims of the manufacturer. A manufacturer of a product can sometimes bend the truth. Especially when it comes to cleaning products. It is safer to read reviews by other consumers that have used the product and are happy or unhappy.

Stephen stopped by my shop a few months ago with his newly purchased silver 928. We were working on our 928's and he had brown Florida well water stains on the side of his car and brake dust on his wheels. I offered to give him some Brown Royal to clean it up. I am not trying to solicit my product on this forum, but since he mentioned it, I thought I would let you know how its made. Take care all and have a Happy New Year.
