Default Anyone familiar with these wheels? (Non-928 specific)

I'm considering upgrading my daily driver '88 924S with a really nice, clean low-miles 944 that seems to be in superb condition. Haven't seen the car in person yet, but it has the wheels pictured below. Seller/original owner says they are:

"3-piece JongBloed (sounds like "Young Blood") racing wheels style 213." Polished aluminum. A little blingy for my taste, but supposedly very expensive, lightweight and high-quality wheels. They have a website:

http://www.jongbloedracing.com

but there is not much data on the site. Seller is the original owner of the 944 and said the wheels were ~$5K in the early '80's. If these wheels are really worth anything I could replace them with Porsche wheels, sell them and maybe accomplish a "sideways" upgrade from the 924S, which, while mechanically solid, is cosmetically challenged to the point where I can't really be driving it on business appointments.

Anyone here familiar with these wheels?

Jongbloed wheels are PRICEY....the Lock Racing Nissan GTR uses them and so do many local racers...I didn't think they were around for that long, but I guess so?

Yup, they are very high quality rims. You could probably unload them to a 914 or VW person for some good bucks.

By the look of that lip, you are looking at an early offset 944. What year?

I am sure you know your 924S has the high compression motor and short fifth gear. So, your motor (short block and pistons), ECU and transaxle are more desirable than the run-of the-mill drivetrain -particularly with the spec racers. You may want to keep that in mind if you are selling or trading your S.

Brian--very interesting! These are 8" and 9" x 16's. Early offset car.

Michael,

It's an '83. I'd rather have the later interior, but this one might be too nice to pass up. RE the '88. I was aware of the higher-compression, higher horsepower, but not the shorter 5th gear. I bought it with the idea that it would be a good car to do AX and DE's (on a beginner's level). As things have turned out, it's become my daily driver, and I actually really like running around in it. If I sell it it would probably be to someone who wants to build a spec racer, because of the poor paint and dash. (BTW, Brian's seen pix of the '88 and it probably looks better than I'm describing it--but still kind of a beater. I had it for sale some time back and got ZERO bites.)

So I've been looking for a way to move sideways on the DD for minimal $$. My "cap room" for P-cars is pretty small right now, so this early car in GREAT shape is very appealing. It will be interesting to compare with the '83 when I go test drive it.

Thanks for the input, guys and MERRY CHRISTMAS! (I'm waiting up for Santa....)
