Wheel Spacer Questions
Anyone know where to get some wheel spacers for my '82? Any suggestions on the size? I was thinking 1 inch.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Found these, do not know if that is what you need. I would try Tire Rack also they have some spacers.
Watch out that they do not cause a wobble in teh rim where the bolt on. That was an OLD problem many years ago.

Does anyone have any experience with spacers and/or pics of them before and after?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I have 1"hub centric spacers on my '81. They are the bolt on with studs. Wheels are 8" phone dials from later 944 and running 245/45/16 avon techm. The wheels fit very nice under car witha bout 1/4" to fender. I do not remember which ebay vendor these are from, but the set came with open lugs and quality is excellent.

Good god I do not like dial up. /anyway the ones I have look like the ones champagne has. Also the tires I have now (avon) fit about 3/8" past the rim so a 1 1/2 " spacer might do o.k. with a more flush tire.

Brian,
You are welcome to head north any time to look at the collection and see what you like... You will need the spacers with studs and open ended nuts or you will have to install new, longer studs into your hubs and use a slip on spacer... The 928S cars did the latter. It is easier to do the former...that is what I did with my '81. I used 1" spacer and could have gone even wider, but that is really a big improvement in looks.

others here will be much better equipped to answer that than me.
I had my S4 modified by Kevin Michael with his custom wide rear quarter panels. Makes my car actually a bit wider than a GTS. The 1.5" spacer brings the tire right up to the lip with just enough clearance.
That will do until I find wider rear wheels.
But the spacers are excellent quality and bolt right up. Self centering and comes with all the hardware.

Thanks Paul.
Does anyone know if the 1.5" is okay for an OB car?
Thanks.

Hi
My UK 928S2 - 16V (1986 - 310 HP) had 21 mm spacers fitted from the factory with longer studs... so I see no problem with bearings etc going to an inch.....1.5 inches might overload the bearings possibly....
All the best Brett

One point of caution- the bolts holding on the bolt-on spacers will protrude a ways into the recesses of the hub of the wheel you're mounting. This was not an issue with my factory rims (which have very deep recesses, like 60 mm or so).
15 mm spacers on rear of my '90:
hub's lugs sticking out ~15 mm:
Spacer nuts on hub lugs, protruding into wheel recesses:
Big honking recesses on a Cup 1 rim:
Notsomuch on an aftermarket Cup4 rim - these wouldn't fit on with the spacers in place:

Always use hub centric spacers which locate and secure the wheel that keeps the load off the lug bolts....I saw a 914 driver as he watched a rear wheel go past him on the track...his own rear wheel ! He was using flat spacers and the lug bolts worked loose where they press through the hub. The nuts then came off and he was passed by his own wheel. So use the correct hub center spacers with lip.....Also note that phone dial wheels do not work with bolt on spacers they do not have the open relief showen in Rob's photos
