Replacing the S4 caliper springs - which part number and how many?

So I'm planning on stripping and painting my calipers on my '89, and decided to replace the crusty stainless steel "spring" pieces that push against the ends of the pads. They're actually sprung plates that lift with corrosion behind them, and interfere with smooth operation and placement of the brake pads in the caliper.
These are the items as shown in PET - 12 and 12A:

For some reason PET shows two different part numbers, a 00 and 01 for each end of the car. Usually the last two digits are for superseded parts, thus 01 would be a newer part that replaces 00. However, in this case I suspect these are the top/bottom ones?
It also unhelpfully says I need "X" number of them (looking at the '91 PET pdf from Porsche's site).
Anyone who's replaced these know which part numbers I need, and how many of each part number? I need 8 of the stainless plates in total.

I dont recall there being a difference between the top and bottom of a caliper only between front and rear calipers.
I suspect that the different part numbers for the 12 and 12A refer to a modified retaining screw design, the ones I bought about 5 years ago had retaining screws coloured green ?????
You need two plates per caliper.
and you need to use heat on the screws to get them to come undone. Access to the head of the screw is poor thus you need to be certain it will come out without buggering the hex socket. alternatively you can cut the existing plates in half in situ then split the two caliper halves to enable you to use molegrips on the mangled head of the screw.

In October I bought some of these to re-do the front calipers on the GTS- The current part # for the fronts is 993 351 959 02. Annoyingly each package only has 1 plate in it, plus 2 socket cap screws with a little dried blue loctite on them already - They were $19.25 each, so it'd be $40 per caliper. And they're not bright stainless anymore, they're sort of matte black. Not sure what the finish is.

Cool, thanks Jon and Rob, sounds like the fact that PET shows two different ones is just a(nother) PET oddity, and that a matching set of 8 of the most recent version of the part is what's needed if the originals are corroded.

Just came across this handy post and thought I'd update this thread.. as it explains the part numbers clearly. The plates come in pairs - one plate to retain the spring clip, and another that goes at the opposite end and has a protrusion on top.
I ended up blasting mine clean - they were corrosion free, and re-used with new pan-head screws.

did the rear brake pads slide easily into the calipers ?
If not , they cannot be pulled back slightly after braking and block the disk permanently . Another possibility is that the handbrake pads aren't adjusted correctly.
Often the brake pads do not fit exact into the calipers cause of alu corrosion between the caliper and the two small guide plates .
Fast "russian" solution : Do some grinding to the brake pads til they slide in without resistance.
Optimal solution : Remove all calipers and brake pads , then the guide plates . Caution : mostly the torx (?) screws are worn out or rusted .
Clean the caliper bay with a steel brush or better sand blast them .
After that , use new guide plates and screws :
993 351 929 02 for GTS caliper front ( 4x )
993 351 929 00 for S4 caliper front ( 4x )
993 352 929 00 for S4/GT/GTS caliper rear ( 4x)
