You need to be able to shift the trans through the gears, rotate the input shaft, and get results at output shaft. Ours got out of sequence.
Near Saginaw Bay, Lake Huron. How in the hell did the two of us end up there? At least we had a 30 pack of the champagne of beers.
That's number 6, btw, in the foreground. And number 6 is in FANTASTIC shape. Completely unadulterated.
And the 12 hours of harness work was moot. A major effort by Travis on the west coast unearthed a real replacement harness.

So, I managed to shift it into every gear today. Every gear locks up the transmission solid except third.
However, I shouldn't be able to select both second AND third, correct?
What could be wrong? I don't see any broken parts or worn pieces, though the transmission did sit too long and there is some rust on parts. Gears all seem fine though, and rotate fine provided I don't select a gear other than third.

Not sure, its been a long time since we did the work, so its hard to remember.
The problem was not the gear it was in, but the other forks being in the wrong position while it was in a given gear.
I have that gearbox fairly accessible in my garage, if you need, I can open it and take measurements of relative positions of the forks.
Am assuming the video we made was too roughly done for it to be a comparison for you.? We should have done a better job on that, but it was the first time working with one.

Your third gear slider is ALWAYS engaged, your trans is always in 3 rd gear......select any other gear and it is locked up and stalls the engine. You need to move the slider to disengage 3 rd gear then determine how and why it was able to get away from the shift fork or the fork moved.
