running very rough sitting still

New guy to the thread BUT this is an OLD problem for the last 50 years. Look IN the distributer cap and see if there are tracking marks from one cylinder to another. This is the oldest problem found in a rough engine. Had this with a 1971 Jaguar V12 and it drove my up the wall. Why I did not replace the darn cap was a mistake on my part but in your case it is worth a look.

I looked at the passenger bank and I only see 1-4 not 1-5 and drivers side I see the other 4 cyl's 5-8 unless I am wrong again there are 4 on each side of the car. My wires are labled Beru wires and tags are on them and I did double check to see if the wire went to the plug that it was labeled for just in case someone may have moved one of the clip on tags that have the numbers on them. All is good number wise.
I am going to have to find some other coil wires to try that first, but I think you have to buy the whole set to get coil wires or at least that is what I have seen so far, if someone has a good used set of coil wires they know are good they could let me know what they want for them, and I will try them before I spend mutiple bucks on a whole set. Some people have back up wires that have not completely been destroyed and may want to sell them if they upgraded or something.
Does anyone know if I can use a different coil wire just to try out my test or does it have to be specific to the car?
ThanksTony H.

To answer the question about the caps they are new just put them on 1 week ago. and I looked anyway I did not see any cracks anywhere in the cap, The new caps are from 928Rus. My coil wire looked to be very worn inside and missing insulation around the center area so I think they may be my culprit??
Thanks for the info on your issue it all helps me!!!

Sounds like you had an issue thats been highlighted somewhat worse when you disturbed all those parts with the tbelt project.
With new caps and rotors I'd replace the ignition wires (8 plus the 2 coil wires) and the spark plugs as a matter of maintenance and double check all electrical connections that were distrubed.

My good friend Malcolm thanks for the info, you are wise as always I have checked all connections electrically and the only thing left is wires so I must bite the bullet call Roger or someone and spend the money on wires all of them.
Beru wires are up there in price, heck have the price of a torque tube rebuild for wires. Any other suggestions on product, good or bad???
Thanks Tony H.

I replaced my stock Beru wires with Nology. They claim to give a little more hp but its debateable.
If I was in the market again I'd buy new Beru.

best bet is the replacement Beru set,
its the most expensive but its already routed and pretty much plug and play. I have installed a few of these sets and they always work, where doing the swap out the wires routine can sometimes result in finding failed spark plug ends or failed cap or coil ends

Tony,
Bite the bullet and get new leads if yours are like that.
And yes it was the ends that I was mainly refering too. But checking all of the leads is needed as well as there is common cracks which form and leak spark out. (looks like a fireworks show at night)
also check out Aurora Electronics here in Abbotsford BC. They make new leads they are good quality and the price is very reasonable.

Yes someone said to check it at night like that and I did and no sparks / fireflies were seen at all, I have ordered 2 new coil wires from Roger, 80 sum bucks for both, and I am going to see if that solves my issue's, If not then all new wires I guess, I looked at the ends of the spark plugs wires themselves and they look like new but the coil wire ends look like someone has smoked them with green smoke and the insides look cracked so I will start there.
What is this ignition module thing the car starts fine, when the car is together that is but I was experiencing a skip could the ignition module cause that as well, either way the coil wires have to be replaced so it is not a waist of time, but all of the plug wires, now they look like they just came out of a box shinny clean chrome looking ends on the distributor side that is.
I hope the coil wires solves this problem if not back to the board to draw up more ideas and money.
Thanks for all the help!!
I will let everyone know what the result is after I get it back together and new coil wires are on.
Cross your fingers for me.

keep an eye on the coil side of the new wires if the new wires get corroded then it can also indicate a leaking coil so then the coil/s should be replaced used will work 928intl has em for half

I am not real familiar with what is called ohming out wires, is that the same thing as checking for resistence or continuity?, I will also check a good check on the ends of the new wires to see if the corrode if so after making sure (how to ohm out the wires) I will replace the coils if needed.
Thanks for the tip on 928 INT. on used parts. The new wires shoud be here in a day or so and I will know most likely right away if that was my issue or not?
Thanks so much for all of the info and help from all who have responded, the 18 bucks I spent on this web site is the best 18 bucks I have ever put into my car I can tell you that much. Everyone is great.
Thanks again I will update,

Question for future reference in this subject. I am one to go for race proven parts for ignition and fuel delivery. Is this NOT a good idea for a 928?
In this case I would have gone with Moroso custom made wires and probably and MSD type of coil. Mine has the Rousch injection upgrade and runs fine, FOR NOW I guess.
Thanks and I second the motion that joining this group was a good investment into the car.
