Default Door - Light Switch

My interior light does not work when the door opens. I tried replacing the switch in the door and it slipped in the hole. I cannot find an openning big enough to access the area behind it. Anyone out there know how this is done and how to go about installing a new one. This is for an 81 928S. Thanks.

USA auto parts stores almost always sell gripper devices that will fit thru the switch hole, and allow you to grab the wire and pull it back to the hole. The grippers are inexpensive, and you will use it pretty often.

I would suggest that you get a piece of mechanics wire bend a small U in the end and go fishing ( through the switch hole) you should be able to HOOK the wire.

Also if your crafty you can feed the brown wire from the inside, a little looking and you should find this brown/white stripe wire going into the cowl panel it should be just above the door harness connector

But doesnt the switch have a nut on the inside to prevent it from slipping the other way....and if so how the hell do you tighten it ?

the threaded portion is what screws into the door jamb. What happens to the pin switch is it gets dirty then when the door is open the switch gets hot due to increased resistance then the pin portion being plastic simply melts and the pin along with the spring pops out leaving the wire and its soldered connector hanging inside the door jamb.
Take an 11mm wrench and unscrew the nut looking part as this is the outside of the pin switch. If in doubt unscrew the other side so you can see how things are supposed to work

There is a gromit by the hood open lever you can pop off and fish the wire out. Then put a wire through the hole in the door jam and fish that out through the gromit hole and connect together with butt connecter and pull back through. Did this a few days ago. Took ten minutes to do,but alot longer to figure out how to do.

parts stores have a pencil diameter sized magnet on a stick. This very useful in many tight places.
