Home made radiator cover
I borrowed Ken's Porkencover (Radcover?) idea and made this from some heat shield material. The stuff is actually quite easy to cut - as long as you have some good quality aviation snips - and it's somewhat malleable so it can be formed into various shapes.
Here's a link if anyone's interested in getting some of the stuff: http://www.aclperformance.com.au/prod_heatshield.htm

The idea is to lower airbox temps, especially when sitting in traffic. It's been pretty hot here lately so I thought I'd give it a try. The chap who came up with the idea originally (Ken of Porkentensioner fame) uses a neoprene affair that he says drops the airbox temp by about 20 degrees F.

Imo000...cold air is more dense...more oxygen molecules to participate in burning means more fire in the hole - and as Rob points out, a lot of stop lights are conveniently located at quarter mile intervals...

That look like it will deform while driving. It doesn't appear it will last too long. At least in that shape. ;-)
Good luck with your project.

I made my own out of fiberglass. It's been on almost a year and still works well.

YEA JIM! I was wondering when you were going to post a pic of that. Man, do that in black or maybe even body colored carbon fiber and man it would be AWESOME!!! I would love two in standard black CF for my GTS's!

It shouldn't...only comes out as far as the leading edge of the front fan cover. This way it's only stopping hot air from convecting directly upward into the intakes when the car is stationary. It's pretty stiff material and bolted along with the main fan cowling so it stays nicely in place. Without actually testing the airbox temp I'm guessing it should help when stopped in traffic on hot days because the material insulates so well. Even when the rad is at full temperature I can put my hand on the cover and it's only slightly warm.
Of course it's pales in comparison with Jim's...that one looks stunning!
