Default Pittsburgh to Boston in my "new" 928

I will be flying in to Pittsburgh Thursday AM to pick up and drive home my new 84 928. I expect a smooth and grin-filled trip, but wanted to arm myself with a short list of recommended shops along the route just in case. I will be travelling from Pittsburgh to Boston via I-80 to I-81 to I-84 to I-90. Does anyone from places along that route know of shops I should be aware of? Thanks! I think I'll be up all night in anticipation!

Congrats, that is the best route. Watch out for cops on 84 in CT and 90 in MA of course.
You could look up Musante near Hartford, but that is 1.5 hours from home

Bring a bunch of torpedo fuses and print out the fuse and relay chart for your year car from 928 Specialists: I tried to copy and paste, but it failed...
Good luck, and look us locals up before winter!!!

Brian,
Where are you buying your 928 in Pittsburgh? I live a little North of Pittsburgh almost on your way to 80.

If you are going to hit I-80 east you can go North on 79 and you'll run right into 80. Or if you take 28 North and go through New Kensington, then Kittanning and New Bethlehem you'll intersect 80 about 40 miles more east. The latter may be less miles but may be more time. Once you get out of the city on 79 it's a nice drive to 80. If the weather is good, 80 will also be great 928 drive!

Here's a shop that is recommended by a long time RLer.

Porsche Specialties, John Raysich. The address is 371 Carol Ave, Bridgeville PA 15017, phone 412-221-1855.

I'm very new to 928's but if you need any help while here, give me a call 412 523-3000. I'll do what ever I can.

Good luck and have fun.

Brian - did you buy the rubinet red one from ebay? last 4 vin #2790? If so, that was my first shark and I can give you a detailed history of it. Send me a pm if that's the case and we'll talk by phone. It's a good car.

In Oxford, CT (Exit 16 off I-84, between Danbury and Waterbury, you will be very close to Dan Jacobs Hairy Dog Garage. Dan's got a mechanic on staff who is a 928-track-car-owner and PCA DE instructor.

Near Hartford, there is Musante Motorsports, also along the way. They know where to look when they can't find the engine in the trunk.

Good luck!!

Could be Rick. The one in your ad is a Euro, and it looks really well taken care of. Funny how many sharks there are around SWPA that you never see or hear of!

Hi Guys - thanks for the responses. I made the 600 mile trip home to Boston yesterday without a hitch. The car ran great and it was a joy to drive. These cars can really gobble up the miles! And yes, it is that black 84 Euro. Drives like a new car - tight as a drum. I will post a thread with more details and pics once I get it cleaned up. Thanks again!!

That's great to hear Brian. Awesome looking car from the pics. Very low milage and only one owner. It was so close to me, I wish I would have had a chance to check it out before it was sold and gone. Just wondering, did you pay the asking price that was on AT?

Rick - bummer - wish I had known you were in the area - it would have been nice to meet you and an extra set of eyes would have been nice! I did pay asking price, but the seller ponied up for a TB/WP service before I took delivery (had never been done!). The car (at least in my eyes) checked out very nice, and had a lot going for it (Euro, 5-spd, low miles, original owner, unmolested, all documetation, excellent condition, etc.). I thought it was a rare find considering all of that. It does have a couple of issues that the seller was upfront about - AC not cold, weak 2/3 synchros (or maybe mis-adjusted clutch).

Wow what a nice find! I am glad the trip went well and congrats on the purchase, not too many low mile one owner 5 speed Euro's like that around, well worth the price.

Value to me, is all up to the buyer. If you're OK with the price, then that's all that matters. TB/WP service is an big expense to have done, so you can almost consider the amount it would take to have done or even DIY cost off the selling price. PM or call me if you are ever in Pittsburgh again.

What route did you end up taking to get to I-80?
