Question NO START, direction please

This is the story from the PO
1. Car starts and runs on either then stops.
My GUESS is like the 951 was. NO fuel pressure caused by either:
1. Bad Fuel Pump
2, Plugged fuel filter
3. Crimped fuel line (951 problem)
I will see the car the first time on Saturday and was thinking of bringing parts and tools so I do not waste my time down there. Have to go to an Opera!!

Q2
The wires that run UNDER the passenger s seat have been crushed, shorted and fried. If these go to the fuel pump then there is the problem.
They got crushed by a mechanic when he took out the seats to replace the carpets.
Thanks all.

You might want to check the following relays- fuel pump and EFI. Year and model of car would also help.

The fuel pump wire runs along the threshold beside the passenger seat as a test you could go straight to the fuel pump (under the fuel tank all but 1978) with a jumper wire from the battery to see if the pump runs (disconnect the original + wire before jumping ). It might just run but note that such electrical melt downs often kill the fuel injection brain if the car has one !

Sorry guys
1984s USA version
Be glad when I get the books for the car.
ECU for the injection if that is on this model would make sense since the PO said it need a "FUEL SENSOR RELAY"

Just jumper the fuel pump and listen if it runs. Another problem with the L-jet cars is the cold-start valve stops working so the car never starts when cold, but starts fine when warm.

Test the wiring to the fuel pump with a meter BEFORE you replace the fuse and relay. If the wiring is damaged, better to find out before you do more damage. If you do make a test jumper, make sure it has a fuse in it.

Best to pull the seat right away and find/fix that know damage as a first step. JMHO, of course.

I agree 100%. That would beat the SMOKE TEST for sure. The PO can not even go outside to deliver the car to me he is that sick. He is TRUSTING someone as to what is wrong. I feel bad for him but was in his place when my dad was on his last legs from cancer.

I will be happy with just getting the car back to SC but will try all the things and drop into Brumos Porsche to get some odds and ends if I need them. You know the important things, Hat, Shirt etc.

Get to know our sponsors here for your parts needs. They tend to be a bunch less than regular dealer prices. 928 International has a warehouse of 928 parts. On the west coast, you cal call them before 7pm eastern time and have your stuff on your doorstep the next morning. Roger and Dave Roberts do a great job too. Support our sponsor supporters!

I'm working on that same budget. It was a tad smaller for 2009 than for previous years. The funding side anyway...

I encourage folks to suppport the sponsors because they make ownership practical (relatively) and fun for me and for many others. The 928 would be just a garage queen if I had to depend on dealer parts channels and freelance gas-station Porsche specialists for service and repairs. Keeping the sponsors in business is very self-serving for me, and probably for a few others here. Maybe even you!

928 Specialists is just up the road from you in Spruce Pine, NC. Take a look at their offerings, and also at the event history for the Sharks at the Mountain event held in early June every year. That's the kind of support that our sponsors bring to the table. Roger in Texas hosted the Owners' Club International Convention last summer. Mark and 928 International host the annual Sharktoberfest gathering in Anaheim every fall. Carl at Motorsports hosts a track outing in the Chicago area. All provide absolutely excellent service and support for the model.

Another worthwhile investment is in Rennlist membership. The info from the users here is priceless compared with the cost of membership.
