Default Replace brake master cylinder?

Well after going to bleed the brakes and finding a leaking fluid reservoir grommet, I think it might be time to replace the master cyl. It looks kinda bad where the leaking grommet used to be. Posted because I would like a 2nd or 3rd opinion before I start shopping.

Thanks
-Seb

I just replaced my Master Cylinder because my brakes were dragging. If your brakes were working well I would clean it up and replace the grommets.

IMO, that is a waste of money. Replace the grommets, drive a few weeks, inspect for leakage and replace the master cylinder if it still leaks. Mine looked like yours (with the corrosion) before I replaced the grommets and it has not leaked since then.

It's 31 model years old and a $250 part that is safety critical. If you are questioning it, I would not hesitate to replace it. The first thing I did when I bought my 84 was replace/upgrade the entire brake system. The only part I didn't change was the hard lines.

I just found that Pelican has a rebuild kit for $100, anyone ever try to rebuild one of these?

Seb, trust me on this one, replace the grommets, drive and looks for leaks. Put some good quality brake fluid and safe your money so you can spend it on other more important things on your 928.

You only pull the reservior to replace the grommets, the master cylinder stays in place. Was yours bad?

The dreaded blue hose looks frayed though.... you might want to consider replacing that while everything is apart.

If you find yourself doing the brake master you should pull the booster and replace the clutch master, it isn't that difficult with the brake master out. I have gone through a couple brake master cylinders and I've found you want to buy new from a known vendor. Everytime I try to save $$$$ I ended up replacing the cheaper part and spending twice as much.
