Default 86 S/C front clip painting.

I will have my 86 S/C front clip painted this week by 928TT, he did my 85 euro. I found the pass fender had been hit so I took everything down, will keep you posted.

Looking good. I just finished my hood. It took awhile.

Did you use any aluminum paint stripper or did you just sand it down?

Strippers are bad for aluminum, even if they say they are not. Also a 928 should never be sanded to bare aluminum unless you have no choice. You should work the grits down to the e coat or primer or carefully between the two. Paul C's car was sanded to the factory e coat very carefully. It was dreadfully time consuming, but guarantees him paint that will look good for another 20 years. Good luck fellas and post some pics when that baby's done.

928tt I am not a painter like you are but I used aircraft aluminum stripper.

I bought it at advanced auto parts. I did smell a few to many fumes but I can still read a can! The label reads Aircraft Aluminum stripper. The sell it in spray can and in a large can.

I think what Kevin Michael is refering to is that aluminum parts are crosion treated with alodine and if you remove that you will have a greater tendency for corrosion. I work in the offshore helicopter industry and it becomes a big deal for us especially in the salty and hot enviroments that our aircraft have to endure. If you wanted to make it perfect just reapply some alodine on the bare aluminum. Don't get alodine on your skin though. Its pretty bad for your health but then again everything is.

It is called aircraft stripper for aluminum. I am looking at the can as I type. Sold at any advanced auto parts. If you would like I will buy you a can and send it to you if you have a hard time believing what I am saying.

I believe fabio took care of that for me.

I was asking if tampa 928 was using stripper or sanding and he answered my question. I really don't want to get side tracked in this thread.

I am not a painter and you did a beautiful job on his euro and I am sure his 86.5 will look equally as beautiful!

I wish you all luck on this endeavour!

I will give you ample opportunity to throw me under the bus when I post pic's of my 79 that I am going to attempt to paint. I am in the process of getting her ready now but the prep work takes a lot of time and I am learning as I go.

I want to save money there as I want to spend the money on big breaks, tranny and some kind of power adder....turbo,supercharger or head cam intake and change the car to FI

Good luck
