Later style fan switch - lower temperature please?
I am looking for a lower temperture version of the the radiator fan switch 928 606 149 00 used on the 87 to 95 cars.
I remember seeing a thread listing the same type of switch with different part numbers for lower tempertures.
Not talking about the earlier pre 86 switches but the later type.
Anybody know where to find the info Please.
Yes I did try search!!!!
Thanks,
Roger

David,
Thank you so much thats the thread I was looking for.
This time I will add all the numbers to my parts lists.
Thank you,
Roger

I think they make a couple different versions of fixed temp switches from the early cars....the version in the widow is set at 80C I think....then wired to a simple on-off relay from the hot post to the fans...no more variable speed fans based off 8 million inputs.....the lemons is the same way, but only runs the small electric fan

Remember that the later fan 'switch' is a thermistor, a resistor that varies with temperature. The WSM still refers to it as a switch, incorrectly.

I forgot about that previous thread. It was about using switches for replacement setups, target is pre-S4 cars. Roger, unless you are going to do a full rework on the later car's system, separating the two S4+ fans' wiring, that VW/Audi switch won't work as a replacement on the later cars.
There may be a "solution" for later cars that involves adding a resistor to the temp sensor circuit, fooling the controler into thinking the car is warmer than it is. It would functionally move the three fan speeds to slightly lower temps. I looked at this years ago as an exercise, but re-thought the process and discarded it since it would not lower the hot-day high-load slow-driving temps any. It takes a better/cleaner/fresher radiator to do that.
Another option with the VW/Audi switch would be to make a small three-resistor pack to put between the switch and the S4+ harness connector at the existing sensor. As the switch cycles, it would offer the right resistance to the controller for the three speeds. Fan runs slow from low temp to mid, when a second reistor is added and the fans go to mid speed. High temp contact adds another resistor and the fans run at max speed. Just need to find the right resistor values.

What is the normal S4 temp setting for its fans? Whats the experience with where the temp gauge sits under stress? Wondering if its useful to fit an S4 set up into my 83....
