Up close with the Panamera
Howdy all,
Had a great day yesterday at the 2009 PCA-palooza in Eureka Springs, AR. Over 170 owner cars including two beautiful Carrera GT's that made the trek to the Ozarks.
There were only 3 928's in the Peoples Choice judging. Here is a shot of my Silver Metallic '90 S4, the Peoples Choice winner Guards Red 1991 S4, and a sharp Black 1993 GTS.
The Springfield, MO Porsche dealer brought a host of cars including a nice yellow Cayman, two Boxsters, four 911's in various trim, and this gorgeous silver Panamera S.
I tried to get time to take it for a drive but it was booked pretty solid all day and with all the other cars to see and great people to meet I did not get the chance. I have not been especially fond of the shape and look of the car in the photos and video I have seen, but in person it is spectacular. I would have one of these cars today if the wallet would sustain it. I spoke to one of the lucky ones who drove it hard with traction control off on tight Ozark mountain roads. He said he was floored that this big sedan took everything he asked it to do as a sports car and just asked for more.
There were some other nice cars in attendance as well. Maybe sometime this week I'll post the few pics I took in between drooling to my listpage.
This was an excellent event well supported by the sponsors with lots of prizes and raffles. Yours truly won a $100 gift certificate from Vertex and a nice black Porsche crested key fob. If you want to add another nice friendly event to your year by all means make plans for this one.

Are the side mirrors GTS mirrors? They sure look like the style, which is different from the style used on the 911s and other models. Would like to see an engine bay at some point too. I always observed that except for 928 owners, no other Porsche owner ever opens up the engine bay at these car shows (or only very rarely)!

They sure look like GTS mirrors. They did the unveiling at the Friday night reception and the first place I stuck my head was in the engine bay It was dark enough and crowded enough that I did not get a pic. Yesterday the car was not still long enough to get the hood open.

Thanks tino.
For anyone who is on the fence about the shape don't make a final judgment until you go see one in person. It was a totally different look and feel for me when I was "up close and personal."
I will try and get some engine pics from a couple of supercharged 911's posted this week. One of the guys from the local import specialist repair shop has a late '80's Strosek 911 with supercharger. He would only agree that the technical term for it was "scary fast."
