Anything's fair game for a track car. But I never understood the appeal of swapping out a classic, European motor with a domestic in a street car. Somebody on the Alfa forums had recently swapped out the 1.6L in an Alfa GTV coupe with a small block. What a sweet car it once was. Unless this particular 928 is track ready and a real threat in that capacity, it seems (to me) more dull and less Porsche than it once was.

Maybe, maybe not. Some race organizations require you to run the stock engine or at least an engine block that could have come in the car.

Not an issue for track days, though.

It's really hard to get money back from a heavily modified car. Doing an engine swap will run $10k to $20k once it's all sorted and running well.

The only way that engine could be making only 400HP at 15psi is with a turbo that is way undersized for the engine. No lag and a great amount of torque at lower RPMs, but at higher RPM just becomes a complete bottleneck.

That hood scoop actually doesn't look so bad.

Do all these SBC conversions use the original transaxle? I'd imagine they have to, I guess the original trans is good for several hundred HP more than the factory engines were. Seems like a lot of work, but you can make some bogus power out of the new LSx motors.

I saw this car on ebay quite a while back. The engine looks like crap. Like a high mileage junk yard motor that was pulled and stuck a turbo on it.

15lbs of boost is way to much boost if the head gaskets weren't changed and the car got a forged rotating assembly. 400 is a joke for a turbo 5.7l chevy.

When I looked at this car before it didn't mention anything in regards to a rebuilt short block made for boost which is very cheap respectivly for rods and pistons. The crank should be good but if it was breathing well and sized properly that thing would be making big power.

I had a supercharged 3.8l thunderbird SC that was running 17lbs of boost and was making well over 300 rwhp. The supercharger was probably eating up 100 to 120 hp to make the rwhp so what does that say about his setup!

400 seems very low, could be a tuner who can't tune. IM at 500/523 at 8lbs boost on an LS1 and thats far enough with a stock bottom end. Ad says Comp is 8.5:1 so I would say it has been rebuilt and I hope its forged or it will make a big mess with 15lbs of boost.

for a nice looking project...those power #'s are FAR too low....you can get substantially more HP out of a NA LS motor..& pushing 1 bar of boost on 8.5CR that means that motor only makes 200hp normally aspirated and LT1's were between 300-330hp.... Maybe it was designed that way for bottom end performance due to the auto...but who knows....

still seems low, maybe it was mustang dyno where they got those numbers. They seem to read low on turbo cars.
