Default Diagnosis software inquiry

Does anyone know a 928S4 diagnosis software that can operate from a laptop and connect to the round plug by mean of a homemade cable? Or does someone know how to route the round plug data to the com port of a computer?

I've seen the durametric products. It's interesting but rather expensive for the sole purpose of curiosity!

Theo Jenniskens has a nice PC-based tester for the later-model cars (88+).

http://jenniskens.livedsl.nl/diag/Diag.htm

Other (non-PC choices) are the Bosch "Hammer" (contact Roger @ 928sRus) and the JDS Porsche "Spanner" http://www.jdsporsche.com/.

These provide readout of sensor values for the LH and EZK boxes, and access to diagnostics codes for all of the boxes (also PDK, airbags, ABS. alarm depending on model year-- see the websites).

The other approach is the JDS "Sharktuner", a PC-based tuning tool that also provides diagnostic information for the LH and EZK in addition to being able to program and tune fuel and ignition.

I think the cost for the various testers is in the $400-600 range, Sharktuner-2 is around $1000. If the interest is in optimizing performance then the Sharktuner offers a lot of capability that the diagnostic testers cannot, but does not access stored fault codes.

Personally I have a Theo-tester and now a Sharktuner. The tester was useful for basic diagnosis, but does not compare with the capabilities of the Sharktuner. The testers only show the various sensor inputs to the car's engine computers, the Sharktuner shows also what those computers are doing with those inputs.

Cheers,

Salut Michel,

I sent a couple of e-mail to Theo last year. Nice product . I have a '88 and needed the rectangular connector (but wanted the round one also - never know maybe a GTS in the future) and with the exchange rate, it cost a bit to much for me

The 928 OC has one, and lends it out to events run by known 928 OC members. Maybe you want to put an event together.....
