Default Question About Climate Control System 79 v 80

My car is a model year 80. I have a VGC 79 center console. It does not have a provision for the dash temp sensor. MY 80 has an electronic CCU (and subsequent temp sensor). Not to let the 79 console go to waste, I thought I would zip tie the temp sensor behind the console/dash. Will I have issues with HVAC? I will be using the single hole (clock) from the MY 80 as well. Long term, I plan on having one of our leather experts recover the MY 80 core. Thanks.

Let the temp probe dangle out of the panel underneath the passenger shelf. Otherwise it won't read cabin temp. Might get pretty warm under there and then refuse to heat the cabin.

there is also a motor/ fan assembly connected to the sensor so letting it dangle might not be the best idea, what about drilling a hole for it????
then you can fit the sensor/motor/fan into it and you might have to add a couple of sheet metal screws to hold it in place
