Default Creaking sound from front suspension.

My next thing to fix... the creaking noises from the front suspension:

At slow (driveway) speeds, my front suspension makes some significant creaking noises over bumps and dips in the road, such as speed bumps. "Creaking" is the best word to describe the noise... it's not a groan, it's definitely not a squeak, and it's not a thunk or other "impact" sound. Car or air temperature doesn't matter - it does it all the time, whether I'm just starting the car or stopping after a long drive. It does not make this creaking noise when driving at road speeds - just very slow speeds. It seems to be coming from both sides, or from the middle, but I don't hear it from one side more than the other.

It's a GT, so it has the sport suspension package, for what that's worth.

Any suggestions or learned theories as to what is causing the noise? Control arm bushings? Shot-to-hell shocks? Feral goats taking up residence by the oil filter? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Hey Gaz,

I don't know how similar our suspensions are, but I had a similar issue when I first got my car. Check all your rubber boots. My lower ball joints were dried out and creaking bad. You might want to confirm with a friend. Just turn the wheel to one side (don't jack it up) and stick your head under the fender while your friend leans on the car to compress the suspension. You should be able to narrow it down that way.

Yeah, but just make sure the guy leaning on the car is a GOOD friend. Not someone whose GF you've been messing with!

I had a strange creaking coming from my front suspension and upon inspection I found a broken coil spring on the passenger side. The ride height wasn't really effected as far as I could tell but the spring was broken near the bottom. It's probably a long shot but check it to be sure.

I had exactly the same experience, a broken spring created a lot of creaking

My creaking sound was caused by a torn boot and buggered up lower balljoint.

Thanks guys! I will check both the ball joint and spring tomorrow in the daylight. I'll have my wife do the pumping - she's good at that.

Take a look at the front stabilizer links, too, where they connect to the stabilizer bar.

Mine had a loose bolt on one side that wore badly.

Couldn't tell where the noise was, sounded like the back trailing arms.

New bolt, all gone.
