Default How to Zero My Fuel Gauge

The fuel gauge on my '88 reads 3/4 when I fill up the tank. Is there any way to recalibrate (similar to RDK sensor calibration on the later S4's) the fuel gauge. While we are on the subject of fuel, my new 5 speed '88 seems to use a lot more than my automatic '91. It couldn't be the way that I'm driving it, could it?

Might be a sticky fuel level sender. A good way to test is to ground the lead at the sender. If the gauge pins, it is the sender. Sometimes a good cleaning of the sender with brakleen frees up the float.

I did as Dwaye suggests in his pod writeup and slightly rotated the needle of the fuel gauge towards full. Worked great!

Does the tank accept a full 22 gallons?

If not it could be that the plastic fuel tank has imploded due to a clogged vent.

I have a very similar problem. My '82 5 sp did the usual and would always register 3/4 tank when full. Recently my gas tank began to leak, replaced it and now the fuel gauge is very twitchy and jumpy. Intead of reading 3/4 a tank when full like it use to, it now reads below the reserve tank mark and twitches even lower. The gauge will jump around and sometimes even point straight down. Could this be due to a bad fuel sending unit or could it be a bad connection at the top of the unit?
Thanks

I would think eather could cause the gauge to jump and not work corectly, the gauge was working and the tank and connections was the last thing you touched. I would start there first.
