Sorry... My auto shifts fine from 1st to 2nd, but unless the accelerator is almost on the floor it seems to "short shift" 2nd to 3rd. 3rd to 4th shift seems about right... a wee bit short....but about right. It's the part throttle shift between 2nd and 3rd that bothers me...we're talking less than a second in 2nd gear. At full throttle all shifts happen at red line....well I suppose the 3rd to 4th happens at red line as I've always had to back out of it around 100mph due to traffic.

If I drop the shift lever into 3 the 2nd to 3rd shift seems almost normal at part throttle

If I row 2-3/2-3-D I get great 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear shifts.

Sometimes I just want to put the car in D and get 4 normal shifts at part throttle.

Send a message to Steve Cattaneo he is the Mercedes trans Guru, from your post it sounds like the valve body may need to be rebuilt .
You could check the fluid level first
